Summer Office Chair Heat
Admin October 09, 2026
The stuffiness of office chairs in summer is mainly related to physical heat conduction, non-breathable materials, and an imbalance in the microenvironment of sitting postures. It can be alleviated by improving materials, using auxiliary tools, and enhancing ventilation.

The core reasons for the stuffiness of office chairs in summer include three aspects:
- Physical heat conduction: When the ambient temperature is high or exposed to direct sunlight, the surface temperature of the seat rises rapidly, transferring heat to the human body through direct contact. At the same time, when the human body dissipates heat, the buttocks are in close contact with the seat surface, and the body heat continuously transfers to the seat surface, causing the seat temperature to rise further.
- Non-breathable materials: Non-breathable materials such as artificial leather (PU leather) hinder air circulation, causing heat and moisture to accumulate on the contact surface between the buttocks and the seat, creating a local high-temperature and high-humidity environment. For example, the surface temperature of a leather seat after exposure to the sun can be 8-10ยฐC higher than that of a mesh seat.
- Imbalance in the sitting posture microenvironment: When sitting for a long time, a relatively enclosed space is formed between the buttocks and the seat surface, and heat and sweat cannot be dissipated in a timely manner, exacerbating the feeling of stuffiness. This imbalance in the microenvironment further reduces heat dissipation efficiency.
To address the above issues, the following measures can be taken:
- Use bamboo or flax seat cushions: Give priority to natural materials such as bamboo mats and flax mats. Flax material has a breathability rate of over 85%. After exposure to the sun, its surface temperature is 3-5ยฐC lower than that of ordinary seat cushions and even 8-10ยฐC lower than that of genuine leather, effectively reducing heat accumulation.
- Choose gel ice pads: Gel ice pads with a honeycomb structure absorb heat quickly and can rapidly reduce the perceived temperature. However, they may become warm after half an hour of use due to heat saturation. It is recommended to get up and move around regularly (e.g., stand for 1-2 minutes every 30 minutes) to maintain the effect.
- Enhance ventilation: Improve the air circulation around the seat through fans or air conditioners to promote heat dissipation. If the ventilation conditions in the office environment are limited, adjust the position of the seat to avoid direct sunlight.
- Replace with breathable material seats: Mesh seats allow air convection, enabling heat and sweat to be quicklyๅฏผๅบ (exported/dissipated). Their heat dissipation performance is significantly better than that of leather seats. Long-term use can fundamentally improve the stuffiness problem.
By using the above methods, the stuffiness problem of office chairs in summer can be effectively alleviated, and the comfort of sitting for a long time can be improved.
