SU Office Chair Component

Admin October 14, 2026

To create and edit office chair components in SketchUp, follow these steps:

Creating Components: First, complete the basic construction of the office chair model by drawing each individual part of the chair (such as the backrest, seat, armrests, wheels, etc.) separately. When selecting these individual parts, hold down the Ctrl key and click on each part with the mouse until a blue cube border appears around all the parts, indicating that they are all selected. Then, click on “Edit” in the menu bar and select “Create Component” (or use the shortcut key G directly). A Create Component window will pop up. In this window, fill in the component name, for example, “Office Chair Component,” and you can add a component description to explain its purpose or characteristics. After checking the “Replace Selection with Component” option, press Enter to complete the component creation.

Editing Components: The created components can be edited through the right-click menu. Right-click on the model and select “Edit Component” to enter the internal editing mode of the component. In this mode, you can select each model part individually and use the Move tool (shortcut key M) or Rotate tool (shortcut key Q) in the toolbar to adjust the position or rotate the angle of the part. For example, if you need to adjust the height or angle of the armrests, you can directly select the armrest part and use the Move or Rotate tool to operate.

Component Characteristics and Advanced Operations: Components are associative, meaning that when you modify one component, all identical components in the scene will automatically synchronize the changes. If you need to make individual adjustments to a specific component (such as modifying the color or structure of a particular chair alone), you can right-click and select “Make Unique” to break its associativity with other components. In addition, in the dialog box that pops up when creating a component, the “Cut Opening” option should be checked as needed. This option is a key switch for creating complex structures such as door and window openings. For example, if the office chair model includes a hollow design or needs to be nested with other components, checking this option ensures accurate model cutting.

Reference Model Resources: If you need to quickly build office chair components, you can refer to the existing resources in the SketchUp model library. The currently available models include various types such as modern minimalist office chairs, swivel office chairs, executive chairs, staff meeting chairs, Bauhaus dining chairs, mid-century modern office chairs, mesh staff chairs, staff chairs with headrests, and modern retro office chairs. These models can be directly imported as references for creating components or modified in terms of structure and size to fit specific needs.
