Solutions for a Stuck Office Chair
The solutions for a stuck office chair depend on the specific type of malfunction. Here are common situations and corresponding measures:

1. Backrest Stuck in Recline Position If the backrest cannot recline, first check if the control lever under the seat is in the unlocked position. Usually, pulling the lever outward unlocks it, while pushing it inward locks it. If the lever is in the correct position but the backrest still won't recline, there may be a jam in the internal spring or adjustment mechanism. Check if the spring is broken or if the adjustment gears are misaligned. If necessary, contact a professional repair technician to replace the parts.
2. Height Adjustment Stuttering/Noisy Stuttering or noise during height adjustment is often due to a lack of lubrication on the metal friction surfaces where the base connects to the gas lift. In this case, apply a small amount of white lithium grease (NLGI Grade 2) to the connection point. However, never lubricate the gas lift directly, as this may damage the seal and cause the gas lift to fail. If the adjustment still stutters after lubrication, check if the gas lift is leaking or damaged and replace it with a new one.
3. Inflexible Swivel If the chair is difficult to rotate or makes a grinding sound, it is usually due to a lack of lubrication on theๅบ็ (chassis) swivel track. Turn the chair upside down, clean the dust and old grease from the swivel track, and then evenly apply white lithium grease (NLGI Grade 2). If the swivel track is severely worn, replace the chassis assembly.
4. Loose/Difficult-to-Adjust Armrests If the armrest height adjustment latch is stuck, it may be due to rust or a lack of lubrication on the internal rack. Disassemble the armrest latch, clean the rack, and apply a small amount of grease (such as white lithium grease). Reassemble and test the adjustment smoothness. If the rack is severely worn, replace the armrest adjustment mechanism.
5. Backrest Rebound Failure If the plastic gear set of a synchronous-tilt backrest is stuck or lacks rebound force, apply food-grade grease (such as silicone-based grease) to the gear engagement points, avoiding contact with clothing to prevent stains. If the gear set is damaged, replace the entire backrest adjustment mechanism.
6. Smooth Rolling of Casters Impaired Annually, use a cotton swab to apply a small amount of grease to the caster axles. Before cleaning, remove any tangled hair or fibers around the axles. If the wheels are damaged or the axles are deformed, replace them with new casters.
7. Casters Stuck Forcing a stuck caster to rotate may cause injuries to the spine, wrists, or other body parts. Immediately stop applying force, release your hands, adjust your sitting posture, and slowly try to rotate the chair or move its position. If the casters still won't rotate, check if the wheels are jammed by foreign objects or if the axles are rusty. Replace the casters if necessary.
