Staff Office Chair Dimensions

Admin October 10, 2026

The common dimensions of staff office chairs vary depending on the brand, model, and purpose, but generally cover the following ranges:

Seat height is one of the key parameters affecting comfort. It typically ranges from 40 cm to 50 cm, with some products offering an adjustable range of 420 mm to 530 mm. This design allows users to adjust their sitting posture according to their height or desk height, ensuring that their feet are flat on the ground and their knees are bent at a 90-degree angle, preventing concentrated pressure on the legs.

Seat width directly affects the support for the hips and thighs, with common dimensions ranging from 45 cm to 55 cm. A wider seat can accommodate users of different body types, but an excessively wide seat may lead to a lack of support for the lower back; a narrower seat is suitable for smaller individuals and should avoid a feeling of compression.

Seat depth needs to match the length of the thighs, typically ranging from 35 cm to 45 cm, with some products marked as 400 mm to 500 mm. The appropriate depth should allow for a 2-3 finger gap between the back of the knees and the front edge of the seat when the back is fully against the backrest, preventing impaired blood circulation.

Backrest height varies depending on the type of chair: medium-back office chairs usually have a backrest that does not exceed the waist, covering the lumbar region to the shoulder blades; high-end manager chairs or executive chairs have a higher backrest, reaching 1000 mm to 1200 mm, providing support for the neck and head. Some special designs, such as chairs with pillows, may have a total height of up to 120 cm, and attention should be paid to the thickness of the connecting steel plate (recommended 6-8 mm) to ensure safety.

Fixed seat dimensions are generally fixed at 40 cm to 45 cm, but it is advisable to choose adjustable models with a typical adjustment range of 38 cm to 48 cm to accommodate different body types and usage scenarios.

Armrest height needs to be coordinated with the desk height. The armrest height for a single standard workstation chair is 620 mm to 760 mm; for conference chairs, it is slightly lower at 650 mm to 720 mm; for executive chairs, it is higher at 650 mm to 750 mm. The appropriate armrest height should allow the upper arms to hang naturally with the elbows bent at a 90-degree angle, reducing shoulder and neck fatigue.

When choosing an office chair, it is recommended to prioritize trying it out or referring to ergonomic data to ensure that the dimensions match your body type, while also paying attention to adjustable features to enhance long-term comfort.
