Spring Base Office Chair

Admin October 09, 2026

Mid-to-high-end spring base office chairs mainly come in four types of bases: single-spring, dual-spring, adaptive, and fiberglass, each with its own characteristics.

The single-spring base is a relatively basic type. During the first half of use, sitting on it feels easy, and actions like leaning forward can be performed smoothly. However, the experience in the latter half is less satisfactory, as it feels more strenuous. This is due to its short travel and uneven distribution of spring force. Sitting on an office chair with a single-spring base for a long time requires the body to constantly overcome this uneven spring force, which can easily lead to fatigue and is not suitable for people who need to maintain a seated position for extended periods.

The dual-spring base represents a significant improvement in performance. It features an additional spring to assist in controlling the force, cleverly solving the problem of uneven resistance during reclining. In terms of stability, the dual-spring base performs even better, providing users with a more stable support. Chairs from well-known brands such as Haworth Fern, Takada Butterfly, and Gedeli P6 ergonomic chairs all adopt this type of base, demonstrating its popularity in the mid-to-high-end office chair market. It allows users to sit more comfortably and meet various sitting postures required for daily office work.

The adaptive base has the characteristic of intelligent adjustment. It can automatically adjust the reclining force according to the user's weight, theoretically providing relatively suitable support for people of different weights. However, this design also has certain limitations. If the user's weight exceeds the normal range, the base's adjustment may not be precise, leading to a significant reduction in comfort. Chairs from Yongyi often adopt this type of base, making it suitable for people with a normal weight range who seek convenient adjustment experiences.

The fiberglass base, also known as the dual-fiberglass spring base, has its unique advantages. When the chair back reclines, its deformation accounts for a relatively small proportion of the entire travel, and the reclining resistance is uniform, providing users with a relatively smooth and comfortable reclining experience. However, due to the lack of unified production standards among different manufacturers, the experience of chairs with this type of base varies greatly. Chairs such as the Herman Miller Aeron and Sihoo Doro S300, which adopt this type of base, have both good reputations in the market and some different feedback due to differences in production processes.
