Adhesive for Special-Shaped Office Chairs
The adhesive for special-shaped office chairs should be selected based on the material. The following are the types of adhesives suitable for chairs of different materials and their operating points:

1. PP Material Office Chairs
Due to its low surface energy, PP (polypropylene) is difficult to bond with ordinary adhesives and requires the use of special adhesives. The bonding principle is to achieve bonding by changing the interfacial energy state, which requires three key processes:
- Liquid spreading and wetting: The adhesive needs to fully cover the material surface;
- Cohesive curing: The adhesive changes from a liquid to a solid state;
- Interfacial formation of mechanical interlocking or chemical bonding: To ensure long-term bonding strength.
The formulation design needs to take into account bonding strength, toughness, fatigue resistance, and environmental aging resistance, while also complying with low volatile organic compound (VOC) emission standards. It is recommended to use reactive hot-melt adhesives or ultraviolet curing systems. The former quickly cures after being heated and melted, while the latter achieves instant curing through ultraviolet light irradiation, both of which can meet the bonding requirements of PP materials.
2. Plastic Office Chairs
For plastic materials, super glue or hot-melt adhesives can be chosen:
- Super glue: It has strong bonding strength and is suitable for various plastics and composite materials. It is easy to operate, but ventilation is required to avoid irritating odors;
- Hot-melt adhesives: They are applied after being heated and melted and quickly cure after cooling. The bonding effect is significant, and the fixing speed is fast, making them especially suitable for repairing broken or loose plastic parts.
3. Wooden Office Chairs
Choose adhesives according to the type of damage:
- Epoxy resin adhesive: After mixing the AB two-component, it cures with extremely high strength. After curing, its hardness exceeds that of the wood itself, making it suitable for situations where the chair legs are completely broken or the mortise-and-tenon joints are loose. It needs to wait for 24 hours for complete curing and is odorless and environmentally friendly;
- Polyurethane adhesive: It foams and expands during curing and can fill gaps, making it suitable for scenarios where outdoor wooden chairs are cracked or have large gaps. The amount used needs to be controlled during use to avoid excessive expansion leading to deformation;
- White latex adhesive: It has moderate bonding strength and a long curing time, making it suitable for daily small-scale repairs, such as slight cracks in the joints of wooden chairs.
General Operating Points
Regardless of the material, the following steps should be taken before bonding:
- Clean the surface: Remove dust, oil, and other impurities;
- Sand rough: Use sandpaper to roughen the joint area to increase the bonding area;
- Apply adhesive evenly: Avoid accumulation or omission of adhesive;
- Fix and apply pressure: After bonding, press tightly with a heavy object to ensure that the adhesive fully penetrates and cures firmly.
Selecting the appropriate adhesive based on the material and damage situation and strictly following the operating specifications can significantly improve the repair effect and service life.
