Solid Wood Office Chair Primer

Admin October 12, 2026

When selecting a primer for solid wood office chairs, it is essential to consider factors such as type, application conditions, brand, and compatibility. Here are the key points:

1. Primer Type Selection

The primary function of a primer for solid wood office chairs is to seal the wood pores, preventing subsequent topcoats from penetrating or causing deformation. Common types include:

  • Epoxy Primer: Offers strong adhesion and chemical resistance, suitable for humid environments or scenarios requiring high durability. However, it has a longer drying time and requires precise mixing ratios.
  • Traditional Polyurethane Primer: Dries quickly, has high hardness, and excellent wear resistance, ideal for rapid construction or everyday office settings. However, attention should be paid to the humidity of the application environment (white hazing may occur when humidity exceeds 85%).

2. Application Condition Control

  • Humidity Requirements: The humidity of the application environment should be below 85%; otherwise, the paint film may develop foggy defects, affecting aesthetics. If the humidity is too high, adjust the environment using a dehumidifier or air conditioner.
  • Surface Preparation:
    • Old Furniture: Remove peeling or cracked old paint layers, sand the surface until smooth, ensuring direct contact between the new primer and the wood.
    • New Wood: Simply wipe away dust with a dry cloth, avoiding residual oil or moisture, which can affect adhesion.
  • Application Techniques: Follow the principle of "thin application, sanding, and drying." Each coat should not exceed 0.2mm in thickness. After complete drying (usually 4-6 hours), lightly sand with 400-600 grit sandpaper to remove particles before applying the next coat.

3. Brand and Environmental Considerations

  • Bauhinia: Primarily uses water-based eco-friendly formulas with low VOC (volatile organic compound) content, no strong odor after drying, suitable for enclosed spaces like offices, and is budget-friendly.
  • Skshu: Adopts odorless technology, meets national environmental standards, has a paint film hardness of over 2H, and excellent wear resistance, ideal for frequently used office chairs.
  • Immediate Occupancy Scenarios: Prioritize water-based primers from the above brands, which have a short drying time (usually 2-3 hours for surface drying), reducing the overall construction period.

4. Wood Compatibility Verification

The density and oil content of different woods can affect primer performance. For example:

  • Hardwoods (e.g., oak, walnut): Have fine pores and can be directly primed.
  • Softwoods (e.g., pine, fir): Have large pores and require a sealer or additional primer coats. If unsure about the wood type, take clear photos (including grain and cross-section) and consult furniture repair shops or paint brand customer service to avoid rework due to compatibility issues.
