Disassembly of Solid Wood Office Chairs
Admin October 12, 2026
The disassembly of solid wood office chairs should be carried out step by step according to the structural type, with the core being the separation of screws and wooden tenons. Chairs with gas rods require additional handling of the pneumatic components.

I. Disassembly Steps for Assembled Solid Wood Office Chairs (Screw + Wooden Tenon Structure)
Screw Removal
- Locating Screws: Screws are usually hidden in concealed locations such as the inner sides of chair legs, the connection points between the backrest and seat, or beneath the armrests. Carefully observe the structural gaps or feel for the screw heads in the recesses by touch.
- Selecting Tools: Choose the appropriate screwdriver based on the screw type (cross-head or flat-head) to avoid slippage caused by using mismatched tools.
- Operating Points: Turn each screw counterclockwise to loosen it one by one. If a screw is rusty, apply a small amount of lubricating oil to aid in removal. Immediately place the removed screws in a container and categorize them to prevent loss.
Wooden Tenon Separation
- Striking Areas: The wooden tenon connections are mostly located at the joints between the chair legs and crossbeams, as well as between the backrest and seat. Use a rubber mallet to gently tap the fitting areas rather than directly striking the solid wood surface to avoid leaving dents.
- Force Control: Adopt a cyclic approach of โgentle tapping - observation - further tappingโ to slowly separate the wooden tenons. If the tenon is too tight, insert a wooden or plastic piece into the gap to assist in prying, ensuring that the tool does not scratch the wood.
II. Additional Disassembly Steps for Solid Wood Office Chairs with Gas Rods
Seat and Backrest Separation
- Invert the chair so that the base faces upwards. Locate the adjustment screw (usually an Allen screw) connecting the backrest beneath the seat. Use the corresponding wrench to loosen the screw, then lift the seat upwards to separate it from the backrest.
Backrest and Base Separation
- At the connection point between the backrest and the gas rod, find the fixing screw (which may be located on the side or bottom of the adjustment rod). Unscrew the screw, then gently shake the backrest to detach it from the base, avoiding forced pulling that could damage the gas rod.
Gas Rod and Base Separation
- Use a wrench to hold the top of the gas rod steady while using another hand to unscrew the bolt at the junction between the five-star foot and the gas rod. Hold the chair legs firmly during separation to prevent the gas rod from suddenly popping open due to internal pressure (which could cause parts to fly off or injury to personnel).
III. General Precautions
- Preparation: Before disassembly, take photos of the entire chair and each connection point with a mobile phone to record the screw positions and structural relationships for easier reassembly later. Prepare tools such as cross-head/flat-head screwdrivers, a rubber mallet, Allen wrenches, and adjustable wrenches.
- Part Management: Categorize and store the removed screws, wooden tenons, gaskets, and other small parts by location. Use labels to mark their uses (e.g., โchair leg screws,โ โbackrest wooden tenonsโ).
- Safe Operation: Wear anti-slip gloves throughout the process to avoid direct contact with metal parts or sharp edges. When disassembling the gas rod, ensure the environment is well-ventilated and keep away from open flames (as the gas rod may contain residual compressed gas).
