Assembly and Disassembly of Solid Wood Office Chairs

Admin October 09, 2026

The assembly and disassembly of solid wood office chairs require different methods depending on the specific type, mainly divided into two categories: assembled solid wood dining chairs and ordinary office chairs with solid wood components. Attention should be paid to structural differences and tool usage during operation.

Assembly and Disassembly of Assembled Solid Wood Dining Chairs

The joints of such chairs usually adopt a screw and dowel structure, and disassembly requires step-by-step operation:

  1. Screw Removal: Prioritize handling the screws on the inner sides of the chair legs or the concealed areas of the backrest. Use a screwdriver of the corresponding size to turn them counterclockwise. If the screws are rusted, a small amount of lubricating oil can be dripped to assist in loosening.
  2. Dowel Separation: The connection between the dowel and the mortise requires gently tapping the joint area with a rubber mallet to slowly separate the two components. Control the force when tapping to avoid directly hitting the solid wood surface and causing cracks; if the dowel is too tight, a thin wooden piece can be inserted into the gap to assist in prying.
  3. Component Protection: After disassembly, classify and store the screws. Keep the solid wood components away from direct sunlight or humid environments to prevent deformation or mildew.

Assembly and Disassembly of Ordinary Office Chairs with Solid Wood Components

The structure of such chairs is similar to that of ordinary office chairs, but some components (such as the backrest and armrests) may be made of solid wood. The assembly and disassembly should follow the following steps:

  1. Assembly Sequence:

    • Casters and Chair Base: Insert the casters vertically into the holes on the chair base and ensure that the catches are fully locked.
    • Gas Lift and Chair Base: Insert the gas lift into the central hole of the chair base and keep it vertical to avoid deflection.
    • Seat Plate and Chair Seat: Fix the seat plate to the bottom of the chair seat with screws. Ensure that the screws are tightened until there is no looseness.
    • Backrest and Chair Seat: Align the slots or screw holes and fix them with screws or catches. Avoid applying excessive force to the solid wood backrest to prevent cracking.
    • Seat Base and Gas Lift: Insert the seat base vertically into the top of the gas lift. A clicking sound indicates that it is properly installed.
    • Armrests and Headrest: Choose screw fixation or catch installation according to the design. Pay attention to the connection angle between the solid wood armrests and the chair seat.
  2. Disassembly Sequence:

    • Backrest Separation: Loosen the connecting screws between the backrest and the chair seat or press the catches, and separate them slowly to avoid scratching the solid wood surface.
    • Seat Base Removal: Raise the gas lift to the highest position, hold the chair seat with one hand, press the lifting lever with the other hand and shake it until the seat base is loose and then remove it.
    • Gas Lift and Chair Base: Turn the chair base upside down and gently tap the bottom of the gas lift with a rubber mallet, or place a wooden board underneath and tap it with a hammer to avoid directly hitting the metal components and causing deformation.
    • Component Sorting: After disassembly, check the solid wood components for any damage and classify and store the screws for subsequent use.

Precautions: During the assembly and disassembly process, use dedicated tools (such as a rubber mallet and screwdriver) and avoid using hard metal tools to directly hit the solid wood; if encountering stubborn connections, appropriately heat the area around the screws or dowels to assist in loosening.
