Sitting in an Office Chair While Driving

Admin October 17, 2026

There are special cases and creative products involving sitting in an office chair while driving, but such situations are uncommon and mostly unique.

On one hand, there are real-life special cases. In Luxian County, Sichuan, there was once a strange incident where a driver sat in an office chair while driving, which surprised the traffic police. However, this behavior is extremely rare and may be due to some special reasons or personal actions, lacking universality and representativeness. At the same time, this behavior violates traffic rules and poses significant safety risks, not only endangering the driver's own safety but also potentially threatening other road users.

On the other hand, there are creative products that combine office chairs with driving functions. Volkswagen's Norwegian company once launched a drivable electric office chair, which can be regarded as a combination of creativity and technology. It incorporates real automotive technology, relying on an electric motor for propulsion. It has two pedals for controlling acceleration, deceleration, and turning, with a maximum speed of up to 20 kilometers per hour. In addition, the chair is equipped with a touch screen, headlights, a "reverse" radar image, seat belts, and other features, making it highly functional. However, this chair is the only one of its kind globally, specially made to support the marketing activities of its own commercial vehicle models and not mass-produced. This means that ordinary consumers cannot purchase this product on the market; it is more of a conceptual display aimed at attracting public attention and interest.

Overall, sitting in an office chair while driving is not feasible or safe in reality. Whether it is special cases or creative products, they are just individual phenomena and cannot represent common driving methods. In daily life, we should abide by traffic rules and choose appropriate means of transportation to ensure the safety of ourselves and others.
