Sinking Wheel Office Chair
You can try the following methods to repair a sinking office chair:

Using a Hose Clamp First, slide the plastic skirt off the cylinder to expose the metal gas cylinder. If the plastic skirt covers the cylinder body, invert the chair, use a screwdriver to press the base fixing clip, remove the wheels and skirt, and then reinstall the wheels. Wrap the hose clamp around the gas cylinder without tightening it for now. To improve the grip of the clamp, you can wrap rubber bands, tape around the cylinder, or sand the surface of the gas cylinder (clean it first if it's dirty or greasy). When tightening the clamp, ensure the chair is at the correct height, then pull the hose clamp tight and rotate the screw to secure it. Test the chair height. If it's incorrect, move the clamp up or down to adjust. If the clamp slips, you can fix it with a rubber strip or switch to the PVC pipe method.
Using PVC Pipes Measure the diameter of the chair's cylinder and the length at the desired height. A pipe with a diameter of 1.5 inches (3.8 cm) is suitable for most models. Purchase a PVC pipe that is the same diameter as or slightly larger than the gas cylinder and long enough (a plastic shower ring can be used as a substitute, but it's less sturdy). Secure the pipe in a vise and saw from one end to the other with a hacksaw or reciprocating saw (only saw one side to create a crack). It's advisable to wear a mask or respirator when cutting. If you don't have cutting tools, you can keep the pipe intact, remove the chair wheels, and slide the pipe directly onto the cylinder. Push the cut side of the pipe onto the cylinder to make it fit tightly and secure the chair.
Using an Office Chair Sinking Repair Kit An office chair sinking stopper can maintain the height when the cylinder fails, saving the cost of replacement. The universal-sized chair cylinder repair kit is suitable for cylinders with a diameter of 25 - 28 mm (0.98 - 1.1 inches) and includes a stainless-steel clamp and a hex wrench. No need to disassemble the chair or cylinder during installation. After adjusting the height, install it directly, and it can be completed in a few minutes.
Checking the Adjustment Lever Check if the lever under the chair is loose or stuck and try to push it back into place. If the lever is slightly deformed, you can bend it to make it engage correctly with the cylinder button. If you have a chair of the same model, you can compare them side by side to observe the differences and locate the problem.
Other Suggestions If the chair has been used for many years and the spring has lost its elasticity, consider replacing the chair or the spring. If the base is not damaged, you can stack cushions to increase the height.
