Siesta Office Chair Disassembly

Admin October 09, 2026

The disassembly of a siesta office chair can be carried out according to the following steps. Ensure safety and use appropriate tools during the operation:

  1. Removing the Chair Wheels The chair wheels of an office chair are usually directly inserted into the slots on the chair legs, with a relatively simple structure. When removing them, hold the chair legs firmly with one hand to prevent shaking, and grasp the chair wheels with the other hand, pulling outward perpendicular to the direction of the slots. If the chair wheels are tightly connected to the slots, rotate them slightly before pulling them out to avoid damaging the chair legs due to excessive force. Some chair wheels may be rusty from long-term use. In this case, spray a small amount of lubricant (such as WD-40) to assist with disassembly.

  2. Separating the Gas Lift and the Base Plate The connection methods between the gas lift and the base plate are divided into two types: snap-ring fixation and nut fixation:

  • Snap-ring structure: Use snap-ring pliers to grip the edge of the snap ring and expand it outward to remove the snap ring, after which the gas lift can be drawn out from the base plate.
  • Nut structure: Select an appropriate wrench according to the size of the nut and turn the nut counterclockwise to unscrew it. Be sure to keep the nut to prevent loss. If the nut is rusty, treat it with a rust remover before disassembly. Operation tip: Lay the chair down before separation to avoid injury caused by the sudden ejection of the gas lift.
  1. Disassembling the Seat and the Backrest The seat and the backrest are usually fixed to the upper end of the gas lift with screws. Use a screwdriver (preferably a cross or flat-head type that fits) to unscrew the connecting screws one by one. Keep the screws and record their positions (for example, the connecting screws between the backrest and the seat may be of different lengths). If the screws are rusty, use an electric drill with a screw extractor to assist with disassembly. After separation, the seat and the backrest may be further fixed by buckles or additional screws, which need to be further inspected and disassembled.

  2. Disassembling the Base and the Gas Cylinder

  • Base separation: First, completely remove the backrest and raise the gas cylinder to its highest position. Hold the seat cushion firmly with one hand and press the lift lever with the other hand while shaking the base from side to side to loosen it and remove it using the principle of leverage.
  • Gas cylinder removal: Turn the chair legs upside down and tap the top of the gas cylinder vertically with a rubber mallet to make it come out of the chair legs. If there is no rubber mallet, place a wooden board between the gas cylinder and the chair legs and tap the wooden board with an ordinary hammer to avoid directly tapping and deforming the gas cylinder.

Precautions:

  • Wear protective gloves before disassembly to prevent cuts from metal parts.
  • The gas cylinder may contain residual high-pressure gas. Do not disassemble or puncture it by yourself. It is recommended to replace it as a whole.
  • Store the disassembled parts in categories for easy subsequent assembly or maintenance.
