Shredding Office Chairs
Admin October 08, 2026
Shredding office chairs typically involves using a chair shredder, which achieves crushing by shearing and tearing materials with relatively rotating knife rolls. The specific principles and operations are as follows:

I. Equipment Types and Selection Criteria
- Selection by Material Characteristics: Different materials of office chairs (such as solid wood, steel-wood composites, or all-plastic) require different equipment parameters. For example, chairs with metal components need blades and a mainframe with high wear resistance and torque; if the iron sheet is thick (e.g., 1.5-2.0mm for theater seats), it is recommended to use Cr12MoV for the blade material, which extends the lifespan by over 40% compared to ordinary tool steel.
- Selection by Processing Capacity: Small recycling sites (with a daily average of 1-3 tons) can opt for 22-37kW small to medium-sized equipment with an inlet size of approximately 600ร800mm; for processing capacities of 5-10 tons, 45-75kW large-scale equipment is required, equipped with a hydraulic pushing system to enhance efficiency.
- Selection by Iron Sheet Thickness: For ordinary office chairs with iron sheet thicknesses of 0.8-1.2mm, the equipment must match the corresponding blade wear resistance; thicker iron sheets require enhanced blade performance to avoid jamming.
II. Core Working Process
- Feeding and Crushing: Materials enter a closed crushing chamber via a conveyor belt. The two knife shafts of a dual-shaft shredder (equipped with staggered circular blades with claws) rotate in opposite directions at a low speed of 10-20 revolutions per minute, using significant torque to 'grip' the materials and pull them downward, decomposing the entire chair into small pieces through shearing, tearing, and squeezing. The main shaft speed of an iron sheet chair shredder is controlled at 25-35rpm, where the iron sheet is first torn into strips and then crushed into 50-150mm fragments.
- Safety Protection Mechanism: The crushing chamber is equipped with an overload protection device. When encountering hard objects that cannot be crushed, the equipment automatically reverses or stops to prevent damage to core components. For example, the overload protection system of an iron sheet chair shredder will automatically reverse in case of jamming.
III. Methods for Controlling Output Size
- Screen Mesh Aperture Adjustment: The standard screen mesh aperture is 50mm, which can be replaced with specifications ranging from 30-80mm according to subsequent processing needs.
- Blade Clearance Adjustment: After installing new blades, the clearance should be maintained at 0.3-0.5mm. During use, regular inspections are necessary; if the clearance exceeds 1mm, timely adjustment or replacement is required to ensure crushing effectiveness.
IV. Differences in Market Products
Different brands and models of office chair shredders vary in terms of their target materials (such as solid wood, metal, or mixed materials), weight, and price, necessitating the selection of appropriate equipment based on actual needs.
