Sewing Office Chair Seat Cover

Admin October 13, 2026

There are mainly two methods for sewing office chair seat covers: the simple cutting and sewing method and the method after measuring dimensions. Details are as follows:

Simple Cutting and Sewing Method

  1. Cut the seat fabric: Take a suitable piece of cloth and lay it on the chair. Use tailor's chalk to carefully draw a circle along the edge of the chair. Draw a centered line at the head of the chair and draw down both sides at the back. To ensure that the seat cover will have a hanging effect after sewing, draw a bit further down. After drawing the lines, cut the seat fabric according to a one-centimeter seam allowance.
  2. Cut the side fabric of the chair: Starting from an appropriate position, use tailor's chalk to draw down along the seat, also leaving a one-centimeter seam allowance, and then cut it.
  3. Sew the fabrics: First, sew the fabrics on both sides of the chair together. When sewing, make sure the center points are aligned and leave a one-centimeter seam allowance on both sides. Make notches on the reverse side to make the seam smoother. Then, sew the single-layer part at the bottom.
  4. Make the backrest part: Measure the required length of the backrest and cut a long strip from top to bottom as the splicing part of the backrest. Sew the cut long strip onto the corresponding position and then sew another round to firmly connect the backrest part to the main body of the seat cover.

Method After Measuring Dimensions

  1. Measure the dimensions: Use a tape measure to carefully measure the dimensions of each small part of the chair. When measuring, make the dimensions about 5 centimeters larger than the actual measurements to facilitate subsequent sewing operations.
  2. Prepare the tools: Prepare necessary tools such as scissors, tailor's chalk, and a tape measure. Ensure that the tools are complete and sharp for accurate cutting and marking.
  3. Make a draft drawing and cut: According to the measured dimensions, draw a draft drawing by yourself. Use scissors and tailor's chalk to accurately cut the fabric according to the shape and dimensions on the draft drawing.
  4. Sew the fabrics: Sew each corresponding square piece of fabric together to make individual covers. During this process, you can make seat cushions, back cushions, etc. according to your needs to increase the comfort and aesthetics of the seat cover.
  5. Detail handling: Finally, make some small adjustments to the sewn seat cover. Carefully check the details, such as whether the seams are firm and whether there are any loose threads. Repair any problems found in a timely manner.
