Self-made Office Chair
Admin October 08, 2026
There are mainly two ways to make an office chair by yourself: a dual-drive convertible office chair and a simple self-made folding chair. The specific steps are as follows:

Dual-drive Convertible Office Chair
- Prepare basic materials: First, obtain an office chair and deliberately break it to take it home, which is a way to get basic components. Then, remove the chair base and measure the fixed distance between the bolt holes. This data is crucial for making the base support later, ensuring precise connections between components.
- Make the base support: Cut square steel and make the base support according to the measured fixed distance between the bolt holes, then weld it into shape. Drill screw holes at appropriate positions to provide conditions for assembling with other components later.
- Make the central shaft component: Cut a circular steel pipe and weld it onto the central shaft. Seal both ends and drill holes. This step ensures the structural stability and functionality of the central shaft.
- Make the chassis: Cut rectangular steel pipes to make the chassis, weld it into a C-like shape and drill holes. Assemble it with the support using threaded rods. The chassis is an important part that supports the entire chair, and its shape and structure affect the stability of the chair.
- Install wheels and a transmission device: Prepare wheels and install transmission gears. Fix them on the chassis with screws to enable the chair to move.
- Install universal wheels and shock absorbers: Weld them into a T-shape and extend it to the front of the chassis. Weld the universal wheels to the ground contact surface of the chassis and connect the shock absorbers to improve the flexibility and comfort of the chair.
- Install motors and batteries: Weld motor mounts with steel pipes and install two motors. Make a battery compartment to install the batteries to provide power support for the chair.
- Install the circuit control board: Use a disposable lunch box to install the circuit control board and motor speed switch. Weld a bracket to fix the lunch box on both sides of the armrests for easy operation of the chair's various functions. Finally, connect all the wires.
Simple Self-made Folding Chair
- Process the woodworking board: Find a woodworking board, stick masking paper on its surface, draw patterns with a pen, cut out the patterns, tear off the masking paper, and then sand the edges until smooth to make the chair look more beautiful and avoid scratching the user.
- Install hinges: Put the cut-out patterns together, use a hole puncher to make small circular holes, and install the hinges. Flip the seat and continue to install hinges to fix it. The installation of hinges enables the chair to fold.
- Determine the support points: Open the chair, find the support points, mark the traces, and make two corner holes so that they can fit exactly inside, ensuring the stability of the chair when in use.
