Self-Installation of Office Chair
Admin October 10, 2026
You can follow the steps below to install an office chair by yourself. Note that there may be differences in the details of different tutorials, so ensure that the installation is firm and safe:

I. Preparation before Installation
- Confirm the Completeness of Components: Check whether the packaging includes chair legs, casters (usually 5), a gas lift, a base, a seat, a backrest, armrests, a headrest, and matching screws (such as long screws, No. 3 screws, etc.), corner brackets, and covers. If any parts are missing, contact the merchant for replacement.
- Read the Instruction Manual: Refer to the installation guide that comes with the product first. Chairs of different brands or models may have structural differences (such as screw specifications and connection methods), and the instruction manual is the most authoritative reference.
II. Core Installation Steps
Install the Chair Legs and Casters
- Align the five casters with the five holes on the chair legs respectively. Press firmly or tap gently with a rubber mallet to ensure that the wheels are fully embedded and rotate flexibly.
- Note: Some casters need to be fixed with screws. In this case, use the matching screws to tighten them to prevent loosening.
Install the Gas Lift
- Insert the gas lift vertically into the center hole of the chair legs, ensuring that the insertion depth is sufficient (usually you need to hear a 'click' sound or feel significant resistance).
- Key Point: The gas lift is the core component for adjusting the height of the chair. When installing, keep it vertical to avoid air leakage or damage caused by tilting.
Fix the Base and the Seat
- Align the base with the bottom of the seat, and pass four long screws (or the screws specified in the instruction manual) through the holes on the base and tighten them to ensure a firm connection between the base and the seat.
- Tip: Some bases need to distinguish between the front and back directions. Before installation, confirm the markings (such as the word 'FRONT').
Connect the Backrest and the Seat
- Align the connecting corner brackets of the backrest with the holes at the back of the seat and fix them with screws. If the backrest and the seat are of a split design, ensure that the corner bracket screws are tightened to prevent the backrest from wobbling.
Assemble the Gas Lift and the Seat
- Align the bottom hole of the seat (which has been connected to the base) with the top of the gas lift and press down vertically. A 'click' sound indicates that the installation is in place.
- Safety Tip: This step requires two people to cooperate or use a tool (such as a rubber mallet) to tap gently. Avoid using excessive force to prevent damage to the gas lift.
Install the Armrests and the Headrest
- Armrests: Fix the armrests to the shaped frames on both sides of the seat with No. 3 screws, tighten them, and then cover them with the matching covers (tap gently with a rubber mallet to close them).
- Headrest: Insert the connecting rod of the headrest into the hole at the top of the backrest, adjust it to the appropriate height, and then fix it (some headrests need to be locked with screws).
III. Inspection and Adjustment
- Check the Firmness: Shake the various components of the chair (such as the backrest and armrests) to confirm that there is no looseness or abnormal noise.
- Test the Functions: Adjust the height of the gas lift to check whether the lifting is smooth; rotate the chair to confirm that the casters rotate flexibly.
- Adjust the Details: Adjust the height of the headrest, the angle of the armrests, etc. according to your personal needs to ensure comfort.
IV. Precautions
- Avoid using brute force during the installation process to prevent the screws from slipping or the components from being damaged.
- If the screw holes do not align, check whether any parts are missing or whether the installation order is incorrect.
- Keep children away from the installation site to prevent them from touching tools or small parts and causing danger.
