Self-Install Office Chair

Admin October 11, 2026

You can refer to the following steps for self-installing an office chair:

1. Install the chair wheels and gas lift Insert each chair wheel into the assembly holes of the five-star base, ensuring that each wheel is fully seated in its hole. Flip the five-star base so that the wheels face downward, and vertically insert the thicker end of the gas lift into the center hole of the five-star base, ensuring a secure connection between the gas lift and the base. Some tutorials suggest gently pressing down on the gas lift to confirm its fixed position and prevent loosening during subsequent use.

2. Install the seat base and cushion Place the seat base on the bottom of the cushion, ensuring that the orientation of the seat base matches the design of the cushion (e.g., the adjustment lever faces forward). After aligning the screw holes, use a screwdriver to screw each screw in by 3-4 turns to initially secure the seat base, then tighten each screw one by one to prevent the cushion from tilting. Next, align the hole at the bottom of the cushion with the top of the gas lift, press down vertically to fully insert the gas lift into the hole in the seat base, and confirm that there is no wobbling in the connection.

3. Install the chair back Choose the installation method based on the design of the chair back:

  • If the chair back needs to be connected to the armrest brackets, align the bottom sides of the backrest with the installation holes of the armrests and insert them. First, use screws to secure the bottom of the backrest from the bottom of the armrest brackets, then align the back of the backrest with the installation holes of the cushion brackets and secure them with screws.
  • If the chair back is installed independently, take out the cushion and the chair back, and use 3 M8 screws (the specific quantity should be based on the instructions) to pass through the holes at the bottom of the chair back and connect to the cushion brackets. After tightening the screws, check if the chair back is vertical.

4. Install the armrests Press and hold the adjustment button (if any) below the armrest surface, and align the left and right armrests with the holes of the armrest brackets and insert them, ensuring that the armrests are flush with the surface of the cushion. Some models require screws to be fixed from the bottom of the armrest brackets, and these screws should be tightened to prevent the armrests from loosening. After installation, test whether the adjustment functions of the armrests (such as height and angle) are normal.

5. Install the footrest and headrest

  • Footrest installation: Align the footrest with the dedicated holes below the cushion and insert it. A clicking sound indicates that the buckle is in place.
  • Headrest installation: Place the headrest vertically in the middle of the top of the backrest, press firmly on the installation area of the headrest to make it fit against the backrest, and use screws to pass through the headrest fixing buckles and connect to the backrest. After tightening the screws, check if the headrest is stable. Some models allow the headrest to be directly inserted into the top slot of the backrest without the need for screws.

Precautions: The designs of accessories for office chairs from different brands and models may vary. Before installation, carefully read the instructions to confirm details such as screw specifications and hole alignment methods. If you encounter resistance during installation, do not force the operation. Instead, check whether the orientation of the accessories is correct or if any parts are missing.
