Section-Level Office Chair Standard
Admin October 22, 2026
The section-level office chair standard mainly refers to the current and under-revision relevant norms and standards for office chairs in China, covering national standards, industry standards, and group standards, while also focusing on key indicators such as height, safety, and comfort.

I. Core Normative Standards
- QB/T 2280 - 2016: This is a recommended standard in the light industry sector that comprehensively regulates the terminology definitions, technical requirements, and test methods for office chairs. It introduces new environmental protection indicators such as TVOC emissions and flame retardancy, covering mechanical properties such as seat durability (e.g., seat static load tests), gas spring safety (which must pass durability tests), and stability (e.g., rearward stability tests). It also specifies environmental protection requirements such as formaldehyde emissions.
- GB/T 38733 - 2020: This is a national standard that specifies the measurement methods for office chair dimensions, including terminology definitions for structural components such as seat height, seat depth, and armrest height, as well as the precision of measuring equipment (e.g., vernier calipers must have a precision of 0.02mm) and test methods to ensure that dimensions meet ergonomic requirements.
- T/SZFA 0003 - 2025: This is a group standard developed by the Shenzhen Furniture Industry Association, applicable to indoor office chairs. It defines product classifications (e.g., ordinary office chairs and ergonomic chairs based on function), technical requirements (e.g., seat hardness must be within the range of 35-50N), inspection rules (e.g., factory inspections must include items such as appearance and dimensional deviations), as well as packaging, transportation, and storage requirements.
II. Key Performance Indicators
- Height Standard: The seat height range of office chairs should be 40-50 centimeters to accommodate users of different heights, ensuring that their feet can rest flat on the ground and their thighs are parallel to the ground.
- Safety Requirements: The gas pressure bar must pass SGS certification or comply with BIFMA standards to ensure pressure resistance and explosion-proof performance; the gas spring must pass 100,000 durability tests to avoid the risk of air leakage or breakage.
- Comfort Design:
- Lumbar Support: It should support vertical adjustment (travel โฅ 5cm) and horizontal adjustment (travel โฅ 3cm) to accommodate the lumbar support needs of users with different body types.
- Seat Cushion: The front edge should adopt a waterfall-style arc design to reduce pressure on the thighs; the seat depth should ensure that after sitting, the back rests against the chair back, and there is a gap of 2-3 finger widths between the front edge of the seat cushion and the back of the knee.
- Armrests: They should support height adjustment (at least 6 positions), and 4D armrests (adjustable up and down, forward and backward, left and right, and rotationally) are preferred to accommodate different work scenarios (e.g., typing, reading).
- Chassis: It should support multi-position recline adjustment (e.g., more than 3 positions) and be equipped with a synchronous recline mechanism to ensure that the seat surface and chair back angles change synchronously when reclining, enhancing comfort.
