Hardness of Office Chair Seats
A hard office chair can lead to lower back discomfort, such as soreness in the lower back, fatigue and stiffness in the lumbar muscles, etc. This can be improved by using lumbar support cushions and selecting office chairs reasonably.

The lower back discomfort caused by a hard office chair is mainly related to ergonomic principles. Common office chair backrest designs have flaws. A straight or overly soft backrest cannot conform to the naturally curved lumbar spine of the human body. When a person sits on the chair, a "void area" forms between the lower back and the backrest, and the lumbar muscles need to continuously exert force to maintain body balance. Maintaining this state for a long time keeps the lumbar muscles in a state of continuous tension and contraction without sufficient relaxation, leading to lactic acid buildup and subsequently causing symptoms such as soreness in the lower back and fatigue and stiffness in the lumbar muscles.
To address this issue, the following improvement measures can be taken:
- Use high-quality lumbar support cushions: The core function of a lumbar support cushion lies in fitting and supporting. It can closely conform to the curve of the human lower back, fill the empty space between the lumbar spine and the backrest, and provide stable support for the lower back. In this way, the lumbar muscles do not need to overexert themselves to maintain balance and can be effectively relaxed, thereby alleviating lower back discomfort.
- Select office chairs reasonably: When choosing an office chair, do not just focus on the softness of the seat surface but also pay attention to the seat material and sense of support. For foam seat cushions, pay attention to their density. High-density foam seat cushions usually have better support and durability. They can provide a certain degree of comfort while giving sufficient support to the lower back and reducing lower back pressure.
In addition, when using an office chair daily, maintain good sitting posture, avoid sitting in the same position for a long time, get up and move around regularly to promote blood circulation in the lower back, and further prevent and relieve lower back discomfort.
