Safe Use of Office Chairs

Admin October 16, 2026

Safe use of office chairs requires attention to selecting qualified products, being aware of quality hazards, and cultivating good usage habits.

1. Pay Attention to Chair Quality and Safety Hazards

Quality issues with office chairs can pose serious safety risks. There have been multiple recall incidents in the market, primarily due to problems such as backrest breakage and bolt failure, which can cause users to fall and get injured. Therefore, before purchasing, it is essential to confirm whether the product has passed safety certifications (such as the national 3C certification) and avoid chairs with design flaws or inferior materials.

2. Select a Qualified Chair That Meets Your Needs

  1. Dynamic Lumbar Support: A good chair's lumbar support should conform to the S-shaped curve of the human spine in real-time, providing support whether sitting upright or reclining. Individuals weighing over 80 kilograms should choose models with more than 5 adjustment levels to ensure stable support.
  2. Size Adaptability: The seat height should allow the feet to rest naturally on the ground, with the thighs and calves forming a 95-100 degree angle; the seat depth should leave space for the back of the knees to avoid prolonged pressure from an overly long seat cushion. Taller individuals should pay attention to the backrest height and headrest adjustment range.
  3. Chair Type and Posture Matching: Those who sit upright for work should focus on checking the lumbar support, seat cushion, and armrests; those who often recline for rest should pay attention to the backrest's range of motion and the base adjustment method.
  4. Material and Functionality: Mesh materials offer better breathability, while foam seat cushions provide varying degrees of softness and support, allowing for personal preference. Additionally, it is important to verify the weight capacity, adjustment features, installation requirements, and after-sales terms to avoid disputes during subsequent use.

3. Cultivate Scientific Usage Habits

  1. Limit Prolonged Sitting: The total daily sitting time should not exceed 6 hours, and it is recommended to get up and move (such as getting water or stretching) every 30 minutes to promote blood circulation and relieve muscle stiffness.
  2. Adjust Seat Height: Ensure that both feet are flat on the ground; if the chair is too high, use a footrest, and if it is too low, it can increase pressure on the knees.
  3. Optimize Sitting Angle: Recline slightly to 100-110 degrees, allowing the back to fit against the backrest and the lumbar support to maintain the natural curve of the spine.
  4. Adjust Armrest Height: When the elbows are naturally hanging down, the forearms should be able to rest comfortably on the armrests or desktop, with the upper and lower arms forming an angle close to 100 degrees.
  5. Monitor Position: Elevate the monitor so that the line of sight is level with the top edge of the screen to avoid straining the neck by leaning forward.
