Russian Office Chairs

Admin October 16, 2026

Russia has very strict quality and safety standards for office chairs, primarily reflected in the GOST push-back test, EAC certification, and GOST-R drop test standards.

GOST Push-Back Test Standard: Russia's GOST standard system has developed a specialized push-back test method for the reliability of the back support structure of office chairs. This test applies periodic, standardized thrust to the chair back through a specific device, simulating the repeated pressure and impact encountered during daily use to evaluate the performance of the back structure under long-term repeated loads. The test can last for thousands or even tens of thousands of cycles, during which the status of key components such as the chair back, connectors, and legs is closely monitored. If the chair back does not experience issues such as breakage, deformation, or loosening of connectors during the test, and its functionality is not lost, it is considered to have passed the test. This standard ensures the stability and durability of the back support structure of office chairs during daily use.

EAC Certification: To be legally sold in the Russian market, office chairs must pass EAC certification. This certification is based on the technical regulations TR CU 025/2012 of the Eurasian Economic Union on the safety of furniture products. The certification process involves both sample testing and production audits conducted in parallel. Laboratories conduct destructive tests on the chairs according to GOST standards, such as static load testing on the seat surface and simulating the front-to-back rocking motion encountered during daily use, to verify their mechanical stability. At the same time, the certification body audits the quality management system of the production factory and checks the qualification certificates of raw material suppliers. Only office chairs that have passed EAC certification can be legally sold in the Russian market, ensuring that the office chairs sold on the market meet basic quality and safety requirements.

GOST-R Drop Test Standard: This standard aims to ensure that office chairs meet basic safety requirements in terms of structural strength, material stability, and overall design by simulating accidental situations that may occur during actual use. The test involves dropping the chair body from a predetermined height onto a hard surface multiple times, with the drop angles and positions covering common stress points. After the test, the chair body is inspected for breakage, deformation, or loosening of connectors. If there is no structural damage to key components and the functionality is not lost, it is considered to have passed the test. This standard further enhances the safety of office chairs during actual use.
