Disassembly of Rotating Office Chair

Admin October 13, 2026

The disassembly of a rotating office chair should be carried out step by step according to its components. The specific methods are as follows:

1. Removing the Casters

  • Direct Pulling: Grasp the wheel and pull it straight outwards with force. This is suitable for regular casters that are not tightly stuck.
  • Tool Prying: If the wheel is stuck, insert a flat-head screwdriver or a crowbar into the gap between the wheel and the chair leg, and gently pry open the locking ring.
  • Clearing Debris: If the wheel is entangled with hair or fibers, first lay the chair down, and use long scissors or a bent-tip tweezers to clear the entanglement before disassembly.
Note: Avoid using metal tools to pry violently to prevent deformation of the chair leg.

2. Removing the Gas Lift

  • Inverted Tapping: Invert the chair and gently tap the lower part of the connection between the gas lift and the five-star base (chair leg) with a rubber mallet (avoid the hydraulic oil area) to loosen the locking ring.
  • Lubrication Assistance: If tapping is ineffective, apply a small amount of cooking oil to the connection and let it sit for 1-2 hours before tapping again.
Prohibition: It is strictly forbidden to use a metal hammer or a wrench to pry hard, as this may cause the gas lift to leak or burst, leading to safety hazards.

3. Removing the Base

  • Uniform Tapping: Invert the chair and tap evenly around the edge of the base's steel ring with a rubber mallet to loosen the connection.
  • Assisted Loosening: If the base remains firmly attached, repeat tapping and coordinate withๆŽฐๅŠจ (pulling/twisting) operations, or spray a loosening agent (such as WD-40) to assist in disassembly.
Tip: Some chair bases are threadedly connected to the gas lift and need to be rotated counterclockwise for disassembly.

4. Removing the Seat Cushion

  • Tapping Separation: After removing the gas lift, invert the chair and gently tap the metal ring at the bottom of the seat cushion with a rubber mallet while pulling the base upwards with your hand.
  • Screw Removal: If the connection is tight, use a screwdriver to remove the screws at the connection between the seat cushion and the base, then gently tap the chassis and coordinate with stepping on it to separate.
Key Point: Keep the chair stable during operation to prevent the seat cushion from suddenly falling off and causing damage.

5. Removing the Chair Back

  • Screw-Fixed Type: Most chair backs are connected to the seat cushion with screws. Use a screwdriver to unscrew the fixing screws at the junction between the chair back and the seat cushion.
  • Snap-Fit Type: Some chair backs are designed with snaps. Use a plastic pry bar or your fingers to press the snap release mechanism to separate.
Note: Observe the fixing method of the chair back before disassembly to avoid forcibly pulling and causing plastic parts to break.

General Precautions

  • Tool Selection: Prioritize the use of soft tools such as rubber mallets and screwdrivers to avoid scratching the paint surface or damaging the structure with metal tools.
  • Environment Preparation: Lay a soft cloth or cardboard on a spacious and flat ground to prevent parts from being lost or the chair surface from being scratched.
  • Marking Parts: Take photos to record the connection positions before disassembly, or label the parts in order to facilitate subsequent assembly.
  • Special Structures: For complex structures such as bar stools, check whether there are hidden screws on the bottom plate of the seat and unscrew them before disassembly.
