Rosewood Office Chair - Guanmao Chair
The Guanmao chair among rosewood office chairs is a classic Ming-style piece of furniture, named for its resemblance to the official hat of ancient Chinese officials. It comes in two types: the Southern Guanmao chair and the Four-Protruding Guanmao chair, each with unique shapes, historical origins, material characteristics, and price differences.

The shape of the Guanmao chair was basically finalized as early as the Song Dynasty. The shape of the Song Dynasty's 'official hat', which was higher at the back and lower at the front, was similar to the side view of the Guanmao chair, hence its name. Among the numerous traditional Chinese furniture pieces, the Guanmao chair stands out for its tall, simple, and smooth lines. The lower part of the chair, including the seat and legs, is primarily composed of straight lines, while the upper part, including the backrest, top rail, and armrests, exudes a sense of flexibility.
In terms of classification, there are two types of Guanmao chairs: the Southern Guanmao chair and the Four-Protruding Guanmao chair. The top rail and armrests of the Southern Guanmao chair do not protrude, and soft rounded corners are made at the junction of the backrest posts and the top rail. It is usually divided into two types: high-backed and low-backed. The height of the low-backed type generally does not exceed 100 centimeters, while the high-backed type is more comfortable, with an exquisite shape that fits the human body well. The Four-Protruding Guanmao chair has protruding ends on both sides of the top rail and the front ends of the armrests. The backrest is mostly 'S'-shaped and is often made from a single piece of wood.
In terms of materials, most rosewood Guanmao chairs are made of rosewood, such as those made from Dalbergia oliveri. The raw material price ranges from around 10,000 to over 30,000 yuan per ton. This type of wood has a unique natural fruity aroma and rich textures.
In terms of price, there is a significant difference among rosewood Guanmao chairs. Some are cheap, costing a few thousand yuan each, while others can be as expensive as over 100,000 yuan each. This price difference is mainly influenced by factors such as material, craftsmanship, and age. Guanmao chairs made of precious materials, with exquisite craftsmanship, and of a long history tend to be more expensive.
