Rose Chair and Office Chair
Rose chairs include two types: traditional Chinese rose chairs and modern ergonomic rose chairs, which differ significantly in function, design, and materials.

I. Traditional Chinese Rose Chairs
Traditional Chinese rose chairs were popular during the Ming Dynasty, primarily crafted from hardwoods such as huanghuali (rosewood) and tieli (ironwood). They feature a delicate structure and a low profile, with backrests and armrests of similar height, making them suitable for placement near windows to save space and complement the indoor layout favored by literati gatherings. The name's origin has two interpretations: one suggests that the radical 'wang' (meaning jade) in 'rose' metaphorically represents the moral virtues pursued by literati (such as benevolence, righteousness, wisdom, courage, and purity); the other is a dialectal homophone, 'mei gui yi' (beautiful ghost chair), reflecting a folk interpretation of its unique shape.
In terms of design evolution, rose chairs gained popularity among literati during the Song Dynasty. By the Ming Dynasty, the height of the armrests was lowered to enhance user comfort, leading to the development of seven classic styles, including single-panel enclosures and straight-latticed frames. During the Ming and Qing dynasties, the design continued to evolve, with variations such as begonia-shaped seats emerging. Qing Dynasty examples still retain Ming proportions, demonstrating the continuity of traditional furniture design. Their cultural value lies in their integration of practicality and artistry, making them iconic pieces in literati studies and reflecting the Ming Dynasty's aesthetic preference for elegance over luxury.
II. Modern Ergonomic Rose Chairs
Represented by models like the Igrow YH-01, modern rose chairs break free from traditional material and functional constraints, incorporating ergonomic design principles. Their core feature is dual-lumbar support, which alleviates prolonged sitting pressure through zoned cushioning, making them suitable for various settings, including offices, gaming, and home use. They typically utilize high-elastic mesh, breathable foam, and metal frames for a balance of comfort and durability.
User feedback indicates that their low backrests and adjustable armrests are particularly popular among petite women, as they conform to body contours while avoiding the bulkiness of traditional office chairs. Additionally, modern rose chairs emphasize aesthetic design, integrating minimalist lines and color schemes to complement contemporary home decor, making them functional yet decorative furniture pieces.
Although both types of rose chairs share the same name, they represent the fusion of traditional craftsmanship and modern technologyโthe former carrying cultural heritage and the latter meeting practical needs, together forming the diverse development trajectory of rose chairs.
