Roller Office Chair Accidents

Admin October 16, 2026

Accidents caused by roller office chairs mainly include two types: falls and health damage caused by prolonged sitting.

The first type is fall accidents. A woman sitting on a roller office chair and looking down at her phone fell backward heavily with the chair due to a shift in her center of gravity. When a user sits on a roller office chair and changes their body posture, especially when looking down at their phone, the head extends forward and the body leans backward, causing the center of gravity to shift backward. The wheel design of roller office chairs provides good mobility, and in the case of a backward shift in the center of gravity, the chair is prone to losing balance, resulting in the user falling backward with the chair. Such falls can cause varying degrees of bodily injury, ranging from minor abrasions and bruises to more serious consequences such as fractures and concussions, especially when the head hits the ground, as the damage to the brain can be significant.

The second type is health damage caused by prolonged sitting. Roller office chairs may lead to prolonged sitting due to design issues, which in turn can cause damage to the lumbar spine and other areas. Some roller office chairs may lack sufficient lumbar support in their design. When a user sits on such a chair for long periods while working, the waist will be in a suspended or poorly stressed state. To maintain body balance and stability, the waist muscles need to exert continuous force. Over time, the waist muscles will become fatigued and spasm, leading to waist pain. Prolonged sitting can also cause uneven pressure on the lumbar intervertebral discs, accelerating their degeneration and increasing the risk of lumbar disc herniation. In addition, prolonged sitting affects blood circulation in the body, leading to poor blood return in the lower limbs and symptoms such as lower limb edema and numbness, having multiple negative impacts on physical health.

To avoid accidents caused by roller office chairs, users should maintain a correct sitting posture while using them, avoid bad habits such as looking down at their phones for long periods, choose roller office chairs with a reasonable design and good lumbar support, and get up and move around regularly to relieve physical fatigue.
