Requirements for Making Office Chairs

Admin October 16, 2026

Making office chairs requires meeting five core requirements: structural safety, ergonomic fit, durability and component testing, stability, and labeling and compliance:

Structural safety is the fundamental guarantee. Load-bearing components must pass static and dynamic load tests. For example, the seat cushion should withstand a static pressure of 150 kg without failure, and the backrest should withstand specific forward, backward, and lateral loads without damage. Static and dynamic tipping stability tests must be passed, and office chairs with wheels should prevent excessive tipping when braked. All exposed components must not have accessible sharp edges or corners, and the gaps in moving parts should avoid the risk of pinching fingers. The frame should comply with the EN 1335 standard and have a load-bearing capacity of at least 150 kg.

Ergonomic fit directly affects user comfort. The seat dimensions should conform to adult sitting posture standards, and the adjustment range of adjustable seats should cover the height requirements of most people. For example, the seat height adjustment range should be 38-53 cm, and the seat depth adjustment should have at least 3 levels (with an adjustment range of 15-25 cm). The seat cushion and backrest materials should have high resilience and breathability. The seat cushion should be made of high-resilience cold-foamed polyurethane with a density of โ‰ฅ55 kg/mยณ, and the back should be equipped with a breathable mesh with a pore size of โ‰ค1.5 mm. The lumbar region (L3-L4 segment) should have a 4-6 cm protruding support, the back curvature should conform to the natural S-shape of the spine, and the support area should cover more than 70% of the back. The reclining backrest should have a reasonable damping setting to avoid sudden rebound or adjustment jams. The armrests should allow for 5-10 cm height adjustment and more than 15ยฐ angle adjustment to ensure that the forearms form a 15ยฐ-30ยฐ angle with the desktop.

Durability and component testing ensure long-term reliability. They must pass cyclic durability tests, with the seat surface undergoing at least 100,000 cyclic loads and the backrest undergoing at least 50,000 cyclic loads without breakage or looseness. The casters must pass wear resistance and steering flexibility tests, be suitable for hard floors, carpets, and other scenarios, and the wheels must pass 100,000 rolling tests. The gas rod must pass an anti-burst test and use a TรœV-certified Class-4 pneumatic rod. The exposed fabric should comply with the EN 1021 series flame-retardant requirements to prevent rapid combustion and spread.

Stability requires multi-scenario testing. Stability tests include forward, side, and backward tilting, etc. Test forces or torques should be applied at specific positions on the seat (such as the armrest or the top of the backrest) to measure the critical state. The diameter of the chair legs and the wheelbase should conform to a 1:1.8 golden ratio to ensure stability when reclining 30ยฐ, and the chair legs should have a nylon frame with a diameter of โ‰ฅ6 cm.

Labeling and compliance requirements should clearly indicate the manufacturer's information, product model, maximum load-bearing capacity, and installation and usage instructions to ensure that users can use the product safely and in compliance with regulations.
