Replacing Office Chair Legs

Admin October 12, 2026

If the plastic legs of your computer chair are damaged, it is recommended to replace them with new ones to ensure safety and durability. You can inquire about spare parts at the original place of purchase or purchase alternatives online. When replacing, follow the steps according to the type of five-star base and choose the appropriate material, paying attention to the quality of installation.

I. Replacement Recommendations and Avenues
When the plastic legs of your computer chair are damaged, replacing them with new ones is a safer and more durable option. You can prioritize visiting the original place of purchase to inquire about the availability of compatible spare parts. If the original place of purchase does not have spare parts or they are discontinued, you can search for alternative products with compatible models on legitimate e-commerce platforms. It is important to note that the dimensions and interfaces of chair legs may vary among different brands and models. Before purchasing, confirm the compatibility of the new legs with your original chair to avoid installation difficulties or unstable use due to mismatched dimensions.

II. Material Selection and Cost
There are various materials for computer chair legs on the market, with common options including ABS plastic, nylon plastic, and aluminum alloy. ABS plastic legs are cost-effective but have average wear resistance; nylon plastic legs are stronger and suitable for frequent use scenarios; aluminum alloy legs are lightweight, have strong load-bearing capacity, and are durable, but they are relatively more expensive. The cost of replacing a single plastic leg is usually in the tens of yuan, while choosing aluminum alloy material may cost over a hundred yuan per leg, depending on the material and brand.

III. Replacement Steps (Taking a Five-Star Base as an Example)

  1. Preparation Stage: Place the chair upside down on a soft surface to avoid scratching the chair or the floor, and to facilitate observation of the bottom structure of the central column.
  2. Removing Old Legs:
    • If there is a flat washer retaining clip at the bottom of the central column, use a screwdriver or needle-nose pliers to remove it, and then pull out the old five-star base.
    • If there is no flat washer retaining clip, the five-star base is pressed together with the steel column through a conical structure. Wrap a soft cloth around a hammer and gently tap the edge of the five-star base to loosen and remove it, avoiding direct tapping that may deform the steel column.
  3. Installing New Legs: Align the new five-star base with the conical interface of the steel column and slowly press down until it is fully seated; if the interface is tight, slightly rotate to adjust the angle to ensure a secure installation.

IV. Precautions
When purchasing new legs, prioritize products with reliable quality and carefully read the instructions. If you are unfamiliar with the installation process, it is recommended to contact the merchant for video guidance or seek assistance from professionals to avoid damaging the chair or creating safety hazards due to improper operation.
