Replacing Office Chair Gas Cylinder
Admin October 16, 2026
The replacement of an office chair gas cylinder can be carried out following these steps:

I. Preparation
- Inventory of Parts and Tools: Ensure that all parts are present, including the five-star base, casters, gas lift (cylinder), seat plate, seat, armrests, backrest, and screw pack. Prepare a Phillips screwdriver and lay newspapers or old cloth on the working surface to protect the chair and floor.
- Selecting the Appropriate Cylinder Model: Choose the cylinder length based on the height difference between the desk and the chair. For example, if the desk is 83 cm high and the chair can only be adjusted to a maximum of 50 cm, a 140 model cylinder can be selected.
II. Removing the Old Cylinder
- Method One: Turn the chair upside down and gently tap the connection between the seat and the gas rod with a hammer to loosen it. After turning the chair back upright, step on the chair legs and pull the seat upwards to separate it from the gas rod. Finally, pull the buckle and push the gas rod to split it in half.
- Method Two: Two people should cooperate to raise the chair to its highest position, rock the footrest from side to side, and lift the seat cushion upwards. After inverting the chair, lift the footrest and alternately tap the metal part of the base with a hammer.
- Method Three: Use a pipe wrench to clamp both sides of the gas rod and unscrew it to remove it. If the gas rod is too tight, apply oil to the connection, wait for it to penetrate, then tap to create a gap and use the pipe wrench again.
III. Installing the New Cylinder
- Installing the Five-Star Base and Casters: Place the five-star base face up and align the casters with the mounting holes. For direct-insertion casters, press vertically until a clicking sound indicates they are securely fastened. For threaded casters, screw them in and ensure there is no looseness.
- Installing the Gas Lift onto the Five-Star Base: Flip the five-star base so that the casters are on the ground, remove the protective cap from the bottom of the gas lift, and vertically push the thicker end into the center hole of the five-star base until it is fixed.
- Installing the Seat Plate onto the Seat: Turn the seat upside down, align the seat plate (pay attention to the front and back orientation markings) with the holes on the bottom of the seat, and tighten all screws with a screwdriver.
- Connecting the Seat to the Gas Lift: Lift the seat and align the center hole at the bottom with the piston rod at the top of the gas lift, pressing down vertically until it is securely fastened.
- Installing the Armrests and Backrest: Follow the instructions to install the left and right armrests onto both sides of the seat using brackets and screws (pay attention to distinguishing left from right), then align the connection points of the backrest with the back of the seat and tighten the screws.
IV. Post-Installation Adjustment and Inspection
After sitting down, hold the lift lever and test the lift function: when no one is sitting, lifting the lever should raise the seat smoothly; when sitting, lifting the lever should lower the seat according to body weight, and it should lock at the desired height when released. The entire process should be free of jams and unusual noises, and ensure that all screws are tightly fastened without looseness.
