Replacing Office Chair Base
Admin October 10, 2026
The steps for replacing the base of a regular office lift chair or gaming chair are as follows:

1. Prepare Tools and Ensure Safety
You will need a rubber mallet (if using a regular hammer, pad it with a towel to prevent scratches). Place the chair upside down on a flat surface to ensure a stable working area. If the chair has wheels, it is recommended to secure or remove the chair feet in advance to prevent accidental movement.
2. Disassemble the Connection Between the Base and Seat
- Locate the Fixing Screws: Observe the connection point between the bottom tray of the chair and the seat. Typically, there are 2-4 screws securing it. Use a screwdriver of the corresponding type (usually Phillips or hexagonal) to turn the screws counterclockwise and remove them.
- Separate the Base from the Seat: After removing the screws, gently shake the base to loosen it from the seat. If it is stuck due to long-term use, you can lightly tap the edge of the base with a rubber mallet to assist in separation.
3. Disassemble the Chassis, Gas Lift, and Chair Feet
- Chassis Removal: Hold the chair upside down with one hand so that the chassis faces upwards. Tap specific positions on the edge of the chassis (usually around the connection point of the gas lift) with a rubber mallet. After tapping 3-5 times, the chassis should loosen. If using an iron hammer, pad it with a towel between the hammer head and the chassis to prevent damage to the paint surface.
- Gas Lift Handling: If the fault originates from the gas lift (such as inability to adjust height), place the chair completely upside down and tap the bottom of the gas lift flatly with the side of the hammer (avoid the middle safety catch). Control the force when tapping to avoid damaging the internal structure. Note: It is essential to choose a gas lift with SGS, TUV, or other certifications to ensure safety.
- Chair Foot Separation: If the chair feet are damaged, you need to first remove the connection between the gas lift and the chair feet. Some chair feet are fixed with clips and can be separated by gently pulling. If they are fixed with screws, follow the method in step 2 to disassemble them.
4. Replace Faulty Parts and Reassemble
- Identify the Fault Location: Check the disassembled parts. If the chassis is deformed, the gas lift is leaking, or the chair feet are broken, replace the corresponding new parts accordingly.
- Reverse Assembly: Follow the disassembly sequence in reverse. First, install the chair feet and gas lift, then secure the chassis, and finally tighten the base and seat with screws. Ensure that all connection points are aligned during assembly to avoid misalignment.
Key Tips: It is recommended to take photos of the disassembly process before operating for reference during reassembly. If you are unfamiliar with the structure, refer to the chair's instruction manual or contact the manufacturer for video tutorials.
