Repair Office Chair Armrest
Admin October 19, 2026
Repairing an office chair armrest requires selecting the appropriate method based on the type of damage. Here are common situations and the corresponding repair steps:

If the armrest is broken
- Bonding and Fixing: Apply a strong adhesive (such as epoxy resin glue) evenly on the broken surfaces. Align and press them together to ensure the adhesive fully penetrates the gaps. After the adhesive has fully cured (usually 2-4 hours), check the bonding strength.
- Filling and Sanding: Use wood filler or putty to fill the gaps and surface irregularities at the bonding area. After it dries, sand it with fine sandpaper (400-600 grit) along the wood grain direction until the surface is smooth and free of bumps.
- Color Matching and Painting: Prepare wood paint (either water-based or oil-based) according to the original color of the armrest. Apply it evenly with a spray gun or a small brush in 2-3 thin coats, allowing each coat to dry for 30 minutes. If you need to match the wood grain, use a wood grain pen or a sponge dipped in dark paint to lightly tap out the texture.
- Varnish Protection: Finally, spray 1-2 coats of varnish (choose matte or glossy according to your needs) to enhance the surface's wear resistance. After it dries, the armrest is ready for use.
If the armrest is for a swivel chair and the armrest surface is damaged
- Removing the Old Surface: Use a screwdriver or wrench to remove the fixing screws and take off the damaged armrest surface. Be sure to keep the original installation structure (such as clips and screw holes).
- Making a New Surface:
- Cutting a Template: Place the old armrest surface on cardboard and trace its outline. Cut out a cardboard template of the same shape.
- Assembling Wood Strips: Draw the outline on small wood strips (such as pine strips) according to the template. Glue them together with wood adhesive to form a whole piece, and then use a handsaw to cut out the precise shape along the edge.
- Sanding and Painting: Sand the assembled area until smooth. Apply primer and topcoat (or wood wax oil) in sequence. After each coat dries, lightly sand it, and finally install it back on the armrest bracket.
If the broken area needs reinforcement
- Nail Gun Connection: Use a pneumatic nail gun to drive thin nails (about 15-20mm long) into the inner side of the broken surface at intervals of 3-5cm to ensure a firm connection.
- Repairing Traces: Cover the nail holes and cracks with filler, sand it flat, and then match the color and paint it. The steps are the same as the color treatment part in the broken repair.
Precautions:
- Wear a mask and gloves before operation to avoid inhaling dust or coming into contact with chemical reagents.
- If the armrest is made of plastic, the broken area can be bonded with a hot glue gun or repaired with a plastic welding pen.
- For complex damage (such as a broken metal bracket), it is recommended to contact a professional repair technician.
