Repair Methods for Damaged Office Chair Frames

Admin October 12, 2026

The repair of a damaged office chair frame requires selecting methods based on the specific part and type of damage. Common situations and solutions are as follows:

I. Loose or Broken Metal Components

  1. Loose Screws: Check if the screws in the connecting parts such as chair legs and armrests are loose. Tighten them using a screwdriver or wrench. If the screw holes are worn due to long-term use, fill them with wood shavings or wooden plugs and then reinsert the screws to enhance the fixing effect.
  2. Metal Corner Brace Reinforcement: If the broken or loose part of the metal component cannot be tightened directly, install a metal corner brace of the appropriate size (such as an L-shaped corner brace) and fix it to the broken or loose part with screws to enhance the load-bearing capacity.
  3. Welding or Riveting Repair: If the iron frame is broken (such as the backrest iron frame), first disassemble the backrest armrests, sand the surface of the broken part to remove rust and burrs. If welding equipment is available, repair it by welding with a new metal plate; if not, use rivets instead to fix the broken part by riveting.

II. Loose Mortise-and-Tenon Joints in Solid Wood

  1. Through Mortise-and-Tenon Joint Repair: If the tenon head and mortise eye are loose, evenly apply woodworking glue to the tenon head and mortise eye, fix the mortise-and-tenon joint with clamps, and keep it for 24 hours until the glue is completely dry.
  2. Blind Mortise or Breakage Repair: If the blind mortise is damaged or the wood is broken, replace it with new wood. Process the new wood into a shape that matches the original mortise-and-tenon joint, and reinforce it from a concealed location with screws or wooden wedges to ensure structural stability.

III. Special Component Failures

  1. Hydraulic Rod Oil Leakage: If the chair cannot be raised or lowered, it indicates that the internal oil of the hydraulic rod is leaking or the seal has failed, and a new hydraulic rod needs to be replaced directly. When replacing, turn the chair upside down, disassemble the old hydraulic rod, and install a new rod of the appropriate model.
  2. Wheel Damage: Turn the chair over, unscrew the old wheels with a wrench, install new wheels of the appropriate size, and tighten the screws. If the wheels do not rotate smoothly, it may be due to debris getting stuck or the bearing rusting. Clean the debris inside the wheels and apply a small amount of lubricating oil.

IV. Preventive Maintenance Recommendations

  1. Regularly check if the screws and connecting parts are loose to avoid long-term violent shaking or unilateral stress on the chair.
  2. Solid wood chairs should be kept away from direct sunlight and humid environments. Regularly apply wood wax for maintenance to prevent the wood from cracking or deforming.

Precautions: When repairing, use appropriate tools (such as pliers, wrenches, welding machines, etc.) and wear protective equipment such as gloves and goggles. If self-repair is difficult or the damaged part involves structural safety (such as a broken load-bearing iron frame), it is recommended to contact professional furniture repair services.
