Repair Methods for Broken Office Swivel Chairs

Admin October 11, 2026

The repair method for a broken office swivel chair depends on the specific damaged component. Here are common damage scenarios and their corresponding repair methods:

If the hydraulic rod is damaged: The hydraulic rod is a crucial component for the chair's height adjustment function. Damage to it will prevent the chair from adjusting its height properly. You can replace the hydraulic rod yourself. First, invert the chair so that the hydraulic rod faces upwards. Then, gently tap the edge of the hydraulic rod with a hammer to separate it from the chair base. Be careful to apply moderate force to avoid breaking the plastic parts. Next, install the new hydraulic rod onto the chair base and ensure it is securely attached.

If the backrest wooden board is cracked: A cracked backrest wooden board can affect the chair's comfort and safety. If the crack is severe and cannot be repaired to restore functionality, consider replacing the upper part. When replacing, choose an upper part that matches the original chair model to ensure proper fit and overall aesthetics.

If the chair tilts to one side:

  • Check the wheels: First, check if the wheels are uneven when the chair is placed upright and inverted, and confirm that each wheel foot is in contact with the ground. Invert the chair and carefully inspect each wheel foot for signs of damage, such as bending or deformation. If there are issues with the wheel feet, purchase a new set of matching wheels for complete replacement. When removing the casters, you can pull them out directly by hand. If they are stuck, use a flat-head screwdriver as a lever. In rare cases where they are fixed with screws, use a screwdriver to loosen the screws and remove them. Apply a small amount of spray lubricant (such as WD-40) to each chair base socket, use a rubber mallet to tap each caster into its chair socket, and finally invert the chair to test if the new wheels are securely installed and rotate smoothly.
  • Check the seat plate: If all the wheels are in good condition and the ground is level, check if the seat plate is damaged. Damage to the seat plate can also cause the chair to tilt. If the seat plate is severely damaged, replace it with a new one.
