Repair Adjustable Office Chair
Repairing an adjustable office chair requires selecting the appropriate method based on the specific type of fault. Common faults and repair steps are as follows:

I. Chassis or Tray Faults
If the chair leans to one side, wobbles, or has a loose chassis connection, it may be due to damaged chassis or tray components. Repair Steps:
- Invert the chair to ensure a stable working surface;
- Use a rubber mallet (or a hammer with a towel wrapped around it) to gently tap the connection between the chassis and the gas lift cylinder to separate them;
- Check the chassis for cracks, deformation, or detached connectors, and replace damaged components (such as trays or brackets);
- Ensure tight connections during reassembly to prevent looseness.
II. Gas Lift Cylinder Faults
If the chair cannot be adjusted in height, experiences height adjustment jams, or slides down automatically, it may be due to aging or seal failure of the gas lift cylinder. Repair Steps:
- Separate the Gas Lift Cylinder: Invert the chair and use a hammer to tap the bottom of the gas lift cylinder evenly (avoiding the middle button) to separate it from the chassis;
- Check the Fault Cause:
- Aging Internal Seal: If the chair has been used for more than 5 years, high-pressure gas leakage may cause automatic descent, requiring replacement of the gas lift cylinder;
- Misaligned Adjustment Lever: Check if the lever has been pressing against the valve for a long time, causing the mechanical structure to jam, and adjust the lever position;
- Deformed Chassis: Long-term overloading or impacts may cause deformation of the chassis mechanism, requiring replacement of the chassis or correction of the structure;
- Replace the Gas Lift Cylinder: Choose a new gas lift cylinder with SGS or TUV certification to ensure safety performance; avoid violent tapping during installation to prevent damage to the internal structure.
III. Wheel Replacement
If the wheels jam, do not rotate smoothly, or are damaged, they can be directly replaced. Repair Steps:
- Pull out the old wheels firmly (some wheels may need to be rotated before being pulled out);
- Clean any residue from the wheel axles to ensure smooth installation of the new wheels;
- Align the new wheels with the axles and insert them until a 'click' sound indicates they are properly installed.
IV. Other Mechanical Faults
If the height adjustment fails and it is not a gas lift cylinder issue, it may be due to a jammed chassis or adjustment mechanism. Repair Steps:
- Use an Allen wrench to loosen the fixing screws at the bottom of the chair and separate the chassis from the gas lift cylinder;
- Check the internal gears, springs, and other adjustment mechanisms in the chassis for jamming or damage, clean any foreign objects, or replace components;
- Reassemble and test the height adjustment function to ensure it works properly.
Precautions:
- The gas lift cylinder is a high-pressure component, and non-professionals are not recommended to disassemble it to avoid explosion risks;
- When replacing components, prioritize certified products (such as SGS or TUV) to ensure quality and safety;
- Avoid overloading (usually limited to 100-120kg) or violent impacts during daily use to extend the chair's lifespan.
