Renovation of Iron Office Chairs

Admin October 11, 2026

Renovating iron office chairs can be done according to different needs, with two common options being transforming them into fishing chairs or into a trendy Instagram-style.

Transformation into Fishing Chairs

  • Chair Selection: Prioritize selecting discarded office chairs with pneumatic height adjustment functions. These chairs can flexibly adjust their height and are suitable for complex scenarios such as riverbank slopes. Remove the casters and five-star base to expose the metal frame. Also, avoid chairs with overly soft mesh seats as they can cause discomfort to the buttocks during prolonged use.
  • Chassis Reinforcement: The cross-axis at the four legs of a folding iron chair is a weak point. Sitting on it for a long time can easily lead to the legs splaying out. Look for two pieces of aluminum alloy scrap, such as discarded electric vehicle brackets or old window frames, and cut them into ten-centimeter strips. Install two cross-braces at the bottom of the chair and tighten them with cable ties or iron wires to enhance the chair's stability.
  • Accessory Installation:
    • Fishing Rod Holder Bracket: Select a piece of used PPR water pipe, which is inexpensive and available at hardware stores. Cut it to a length of thirty centimeters, bevel one end, and drill two holes at the other end with an electric drill. Bend a piece of iron wire into a U-shaped clip, tie it to the chair's armrest, insert the water pipe, and clamp on the fishing rod holder.
    • Umbrella Holder: Drill a hole in the backrest of the chair, insert an iron rod and bend it into an L-shape, and tie a sunshade umbrella to it. This provides sun and rain protection while fishing.
    • Bait Tray Holder: Use an old washbasin to cut out a bottom and form it into a circle with iron wire for placing fishing bait.

Transformation into a Trendy Instagram-style

  • Pre-renovation Preparation: Scrape off the peeling paint on the chair's surface and carefully wipe away the debris and powder to prepare for subsequent painting.
  • Required Materials: Prepare metal primer, spray paint (such as Iron Man Gray and Amber, etc.), creamy white water-based metal paint, brushes, and masks. The metal primer prevents rust, the spray paint is used to change the chair's color, the brush assists in painting, and the mask prevents inhalation of paint fumes.
  • Renovation Steps: First, apply a thin layer of rust-proof primer to enhance the chair's durability. When spraying paint, maintain a distance of 20 - 30 cm and use a zigzag spraying method. Choose an open area for the operation. After spraying, it will take about 10 - 20 minutes to dry. You can touch up the paint in small amounts multiple times for an even finish. If the chair was originally green and you are using a light-colored spray paint, first apply a layer of white topcoat as a base color. This will make the color more even and have a better color rendering effect.
