Removing Office Chair Wheels
The method for removing office chair wheels depends on the type of wheel, with common types and removal steps as follows:

1. Stem-mounted wheels These wheels are fixed by inserting a metal stem directly into a hole in the chair base. No tools are required for removal. Direct pulling is the preferred method: Grasp both sides of the wheel with your hands and pull outward evenly, using leverage to separate the stem from the base. If the wheel has become difficult to remove due to prolonged use and increased friction, you can try using a tool to pry it out: Select a flat-head screwdriver, insert its tip into the gap between the wheel and the base, and gently pry using the edge of the base as a fulcrum to widen the gap and reduce resistance. Alternatively, use pliers to grip the middle section of the stem and tap the end of the pliers lightly with a hammer, using the impact to loosen the stem before pulling it out. Be careful to control the force to avoid damaging the hole in the base or the stem of the wheel.
2. Snap-on wheels Snap-on wheels are fixed by an elastic snap inside the wheel that engages with the base. To remove them, you need to break the locked state of the snap. Manual pulling is suitable when the snap is loose: Grasp both sides of the wheel with your hands and pull outward evenly perpendicular to the chair base, feeling for the โclickโ sound as the snap releases. If the snap is tight, you will need to use a tool to pry it: Wrap the head of a flat-head screwdriver with a soft cloth (to prevent scratching the surface of the base), insert it into the gap between the wheel and the base, and gently pry against the edge of the snap to deform it and release it from the locked position; then try pulling the wheel out manually again. Keep the screwdriver perpendicular to the snap during operation to avoid slipping and causing damage to the tool or base.
3. Threaded wheels Threaded wheels are fixed by threading the external threads of the stem into the internal hole of the base. To remove them, you need to rotate them counterclockwise to loosen them: Select a small wrench of the appropriate size (such as a 6mm or 8mm open-end wrench), grip the hexagonal or square section of the wheel stem with the wrench, and rotate it slowly to the left (counterclockwise). As the threads loosen, the wheel will gradually move outward; once the threads are completely disengaged, you can remove the wheel directly. If the threads are rusted and difficult to rotate, spray a small amount of lubricant (such as WD-40) onto the threads, wait 5-10 minutes, and then try rotating again to reduce friction.
Operation precautions: Before removal, it is recommended to invert the chair so that the wheels are facing upward for easier application of force. Wear protective gloves when using tools to avoid cuts. If there are plastic covers or decorative rings at the connection between the wheel and the base, remove them before proceeding with the operation.
