Reclining Office Chair Adjustment
Admin October 10, 2026
The adjustment method for a reclining office chair should be selected according to its specific design. Here are common adjustment mechanisms and operating steps:

I. Lever Adjustment System
- Locate the adjustment lever: Usually positioned on the right or left side beneath the seat; some chairs may require bending over or looking sideways to find it.
- Unlock the recline function:
- If the lever needs to be pulled up (e.g., lifted upwards), simply operate it to allow the backrest to recline freely.
- If it needs to be pushed (e.g., pressed forward), first release the lock, then adjust the angle.
- Adjust the angle and lock: Lean back to a comfortable position, synchronously operate the lever to the desired angle, and secure it (some chairs require pulling up/pushing the lever again to complete locking).
Note: Keep both feet on the ground during adjustment to prevent the chair from tipping over due to a shift in center of gravity.
II. Button Adjustment System
- Differentiate button functions:
- Push the button inwards: Locked state, only allows seat height adjustment.
- Pull the button outwards: Unlocks the recline function, allowing the backrest to adjust freely.
- Adjust and lock: Lean back to the desired angle, then push the button inwards again to lock the position.
Tip: If the button feels resistant, check for internal jamming due to prolonged use; apply gentle force to avoid damage.
III. Handle Adjustment System
- Locate the handle: Typically on the right or left side of the seat; some chairs have it designed beneath the backrest.
- Unlock and adjust:
- After pulling the handle, lean back slightly with your back, and the backrest will move accordingly.
- When the handle is released, the backrest automatically fixes at the current angle.
- Return to upright position: Continue pulling the handle and lean forward slightly; the backrest will automatically spring back to an upright position.
Key Point: Maintain body balance during operation to prevent sudden forward movement due to rebound.
IV. Pull Rod Adjustment System
- Locate the pull rod: Mostly designed beneath the right armrest; some chairs have it on the left.
- Adjust the angle: Pull the rod to allow the backrest to tilt freely; adjust to a flat or semi-reclined position as needed.
- Fix the position: Release the rod, and the backrest automatically locks (some chairs require pushing the rod again to confirm locking).
Applicable Scenario: Suitable for users who need to quickly switch between sitting and lying positions; easy to operate but pay attention to the durability of the pull rod.
General Precautions
- Maintain center of gravity stability: Keep both feet flat on the ground during adjustment to prevent excessive reclining and chair tipping.
- Adjust recline tension: If the backrest rebounds too quickly or slowly, adjust it using the knob beneath the seat (turn clockwise to increase resistance, counterclockwise to decrease it).
- Coordinate with the pneumatic system: Chairs equipped with a gas lift can achieve smooth angle transitions by pushing the height adjustment lever (usually integrated with the recline lever); control the force synchronously.
Tip: It is recommended to read the product manual before the first adjustment, as designs may vary among different brands; if the adjustment mechanism is stuck or malfunctioning, contact after-sales service for repair and avoid forcing operation to prevent damage.
