Rear Adjustment Office Chair
Admin October 14, 2026
The method for adjusting the reclining function of an office chair should be selected according to the chair type, with specific operations as follows:

I. Basic Adjustment Methods
Handle-based Adjustment:
- Locate the adjustment handle on the right side of the seat or beneath the backrest. Pull the handle and lean back slightly with force to the desired angle, then release the handle to secure it. To return to an upright position, pull the handle again and gently push the backrest.
- Some chairs achieve a flat backrest function through a lever beneath the right armrest. Maintain a stable sitting posture during operation to avoid sudden force causing imbalance.
Lever-lock Adjustment:
- A control lever is located on the right side of the seat cushion. Pull it outward to recline freely to a comfortable angle, then push it back in to lock. To return to an upright position, pull the lever outward again and gently push the backrest to avoid excessive spring force causing impact.
II. Fine Adjustment of Spring Force and Angle
Reclining Spring Force Adjustment:
- The base is usually equipped with a cylindrical knob. Turning it clockwise increases the reclining support force (suitable for heavier individuals), while turning it counterclockwise decreases the support force (suitable for lighter individuals).
- Maintain an upright sitting posture during adjustment to avoid reclining too quickly or slowly due to mismatched spring force.
Angle Locking Function:
- Some chairs support multi-angle locking (e.g., 90ยฐ, 105ยฐ, 120ยฐ). Switch between angles using the knob or dial on the right side of the seat cushion. Recline slowly to the target angle before locking.
III. Special Adjustment Methods for High-end Models
Mechanical Knob Type (e.g., Steelcase Gesture):
- A metal knob is located on the left side of the backrest. Rotating it allows for infinite adjustment between 15ยฐ and 135ยฐ, with a green marking line indicating the optimal 135ยฐ reclining angle, suitable for lunch breaks or deep relaxation.
Pneumatic Rod Linkage Type (e.g., Herman Miller Aeron):
- Press and hold the red button on the lower right side of the seat cushion for 3 seconds, straighten your back, release the button, and grip the handle. The system completes adaptive adjustment through the pneumatic rod within 8-12 seconds, matching the user's weight and sitting habits.
Smart Touch Type (e.g., Ergohuman Series):
- Scan the QR code on the seat using an app and enter your height and weight data. The system generates a three-dimensional adjustment plan (including reclining angle, seat depth, and lumbar support height). Follow the prompts to complete personalized settings.
IV. Adjustment Precautions
- Sitting Posture Calibration: Before adjustment, push the seat cushion forward until your legs are naturally bent at 90 degrees (with a knee-to-hip angle of approximately 110ยฐ), ensuring the lumbar spine is in a neutral position. Avoid adjusting the recline directly to prevent uneven spinal stress.
- Angle Limitation: Reclining at 135ยฐ reduces intervertebral disc pressure by 50%, but reclining beyond 150ยฐ may compress the chest cavity (affecting breathing). It is recommended to use for no more than 4 hours per day and to use a footrest to distribute pressure.
- Lumbar Support Check: After adjustment, ensure the lumbar support position aligns with the lumbar curve and that the support force is evenly distributed to avoid localized pressure causing fatigue.
