Rattan Office Chair for Summer

Admin October 09, 2026

Rattan office chairs offer the advantages of being cool and not easily heating up during summer use, but attention should be paid to moisture and mold prevention.

From the perspective of coolness, some rattan office chairs feature a bamboo mat design. This design enhances air circulation and reduces the stuffy feeling on the contact surface between the human body and the chair, ensuring that users do not feel hot during summer use. From a materials science perspective, natural rattan has a low thermal conductivity coefficient, meaning it has a weak ability to conduct heat. In high-temperature summer environments, when the surrounding air temperature rises, the surface temperature of natural rattan increases slowly. It does not heat up as rapidly as some metal or plastic chairs, thus maintaining a relatively cool touch and providing a more comfortable user experience.

However, natural rattan also has some issues that require attention. Natural rattan tends to absorb moisture and expand in environments with a relative humidity exceeding 75%. This is because rattan has many tiny pores inside, and when the humidity is high, moisture enters these pores, causing the rattan to increase in volume. After absorbing moisture and expanding, rattan office chairs may experience deformation and loosening, affecting their structural stability and service life. At the same time, high-humidity environments are prone to mold growth. Mold can grow and multiply on the surface of rattan, not only damaging its appearance, causing mildew spots and discoloration, but also potentially producing unpleasant odors, affecting indoor air quality, and even posing certain health risks to humans.

Nevertheless, this issue can be effectively improved with mold-resistant treatment of the rattan. Mold-resistant treatment usually involves applying a layer of mold inhibitor on the surface of the rattan or using special processes to give the rattan certain mold-resistant properties. Rattan office chairs that have undergone mold-resistant treatment can resist mold erosion to a certain extent, reducing the likelihood of mold growth in high-humidity environments, thereby extending the chair's service life and maintaining its good appearance and performance.
