Quality Inspection of Office Chairs
The quality inspection of office chairs involves multiple aspects, including quality supervision and sampling procedures, non-conforming items, and potential safety hazards.

I. Quality Supervision and Sampling Procedures
According to the Product Quality Law of the People's Republic of China and relevant regulations in Anji County, the implementation rules for the quality supervision and sampling inspection of office chairs in 2026 specify the detailed procedures. The sampling process requires the participation of at least two sampling personnel, who must present valid identification to the inspected enterprises. Products that are not included in the supervision task scope, are designated for export, or are not in a ready-for-sale state are not eligible for sampling. The sampling tasks are usually entrusted to third-party testing institutions, which must ensure compliance with testing qualifications and procedures. Additionally, planned batch management is employed to ensure comprehensive coverage and representativeness of the sampling.
II. Main Non-Conforming Items and Risks
- Stability Issues: National supervision and sampling inspections reveal that 14.9% of non-conforming products have stability defects. Such office chairs are prone to tipping over when leaning forward, backward, or sitting sideways, potentially causing falls or fractures to users.
- Excessive Harmful Substances: Excessive formaldehyde emissions are another prominent issue. Prolonged exposure to excessive formaldehyde can trigger respiratory diseases or skin allergies, particularly posing significant risks to sensitive individuals in office environments.
- Component Quality Defects:
- Five-Star Base Fractures: As a core load-bearing component, a poorly quality five-star base may fracture under long-term use or excessive load, causing users to fall and sustain injuries.
- Caster Wear: Five batches of products failed the caster wear test, exhibiting sliding stuttering or abnormal noises, which shorten the chair's lifespan and affect the user experience.
III. Typical Cases of Non-Conforming Enterprises
Seven batches of products from seven enterprises, including Foshan Shouyu Furniture Co., Ltd. and Huizhou Branch of Shenzhen Jialewei Dun Furniture Co., Ltd., were found to be non-conforming, involving items such as stability and formaldehyde emissions. These enterprises are required to undertake product recalls, rectifications, and legal responsibilities, while their market reputation will be adversely affected.
IV. Consumer Purchase Recommendations
- Prioritize products that have passed national mandatory certifications (such as CCC certification);
- Inspect the materials and craftsmanship of components like the five-star base and casters, avoiding products with overly thin plastic parts or rough welding;
- Judge formaldehyde emissions by smell, exercising caution if there is a strong, pungent odor;
- During trial use, focus on testing the front-to-back tilt stability to ensure there is no abnormal shaking or abnormal noises.
