QB Office Chair Standard

Admin October 12, 2026

QB/T 2280-2016 is the light industry standard for 'Office Furniture - Office Chairs', specifying the design, production, and inspection criteria for office chairs. The following provides an explanation from three aspects: scope of application, core requirements, and testing methods.

Scope of Application
This standard explicitly applies to 'indoor work chairs', which are seats used in daily office scenarios, including but not limited to staff chairs, conference chairs, and executive chairs. Chairs with similar functions in non-office settings (such as home study chairs and study chairs) may refer to this standard, while specialized chairs for medical and educational purposes should adhere to other specific standards. The standard covers the entire lifecycle of chairs, from design and production to packaging, transportation, and storage, all of which must comply with the requirements.

Core Requirements

  1. Structural Safety: Chairs must possess sufficient strength and stability. For example, chair legs should withstand dynamic loads (such as impacts from frequent movement by personnel), and chair backs should resist deformation in both vertical and horizontal directions to ensure no loosening or breakage during long-term use.
  2. Environmentally Friendly Materials: Parts in contact with the human body (such as seats and backrests) must use non-toxic and harmless materials. Indicators of harmful substances, such as formaldehyde emissions, must comply with national environmental protection standards to avoid adverse effects on user health.
  3. Ergonomic Design: Chairs should meet ergonomic needs, such as adjustable seat height and tilt angle, lumbar support from the backrest, and armrest height matching the desktop, to enhance user comfort.
  4. Durability: Key components (such as gas lifts and five-star bases) must pass fatigue tests. For example, gas lifts should withstand tens of thousands of lifting operations, and five-star bases should show no cracking or deformation after simulated long-term use.

Testing Methods
The standard specifies detailed testing procedures, including:

  • Static Load Testing: Apply a fixed weight pressure to the seat and backrest for a certain duration and then inspect for structural damage.
  • Dynamic Impact Testing: Use a simulated human-weight object to free-fall and impact the seat surface to verify the chair's impact resistance.
  • Stability Testing: Tilt the chair to a specific angle and observe whether it topples to ensure user safety.
  • Material Testing: Confirm that materials comply with environmental protection and safety requirements through chemical analysis or instrumental testing.

Through these specifications, QB/T 2280-2016 provides quantifiable standards for the quality of office chairs, enabling consumers to select compliant products based on the standard and requiring enterprises to optimize their production processes accordingly.
