Pushing Office Chair

Admin October 09, 2026

The core operation of pushing an office chair forward or backward is mainly achieved by adjusting the air pressure rod buckle or the slide rail unlocking device at the bottom of the chair body. The specific steps need to be differentiated according to the type of chair.

I. Conventional Ergonomic Office Chairs (with Air Pressure Rods or Slide Rails)

  1. Locate the Adjustment Device: The adjustment mechanism of such chairs is usually concentrated beneath the seat. Users should stand to the side of the chair, reach out to touch the connection between the chair legs and the seat, and look for a circular handle or lever (some models may have a hidden design that requires a bit of pressure or sliding to activate).

  2. Unlock and Adjust Position: After holding down the handle or lever, maintain the pressure and push the chair forward or backward along the floor. If the chair is equipped with wheels (five-star base model), the pushing process will be more effortless, but users should be mindful to avoid surrounding wires and office clutter to prevent scratching the desk or equipment. For slide rail designs, ensure the contact surface between the slide rail and the floor is flat to prevent jamming.

  3. Lock the New Position: After adjusting to the desired sitting distance, release the handle or lever, and the buckle of the air pressure rod or slide rail will automatically lock, securing the chair's position. Some models may require a slight shake of the chair body to confirm the locked state.

II. Old-fashioned Fixed-leg Office Chairs (without Wheels or Slide Rails)

  1. Check the Fixed Structure: Such chairs are usually fixed in position by screws beneath the chair legs. Before operation, users should first check the instruction manual to confirm the type of screws (such as hexagonal or cross-head screws) and the adjustment method to avoid damage from forced twisting.

  2. Adjust Position and Secure: Use the corresponding tool to loosen the screws on the chair legs, manually move the chair to the target position, and then retighten the screws until they are secure. During the adjustment process, maintain the balance of the chair body to prevent tipping.

III. Usage Precautions

  1. Safe Operation: Avoid pushing the chair with excessive force to prevent the air pressure rod from failing or the slide rail from derailing. For chairs with wheels, control the speed, especially on smooth floors or slopes.

  2. Space Management: When leaving the seat, it is recommended to push the chair under the desk to keep the office area tidy, avoid collisions, ensure the public walkway is clear, and improve space utilization.

  3. Regular Maintenance: If the chair is difficult to move, check if the wheels are stuck with foreign objects, if the slide rail is short of oil, or if the air pressure rod is leaking. Timely cleaning or lubrication can extend the service life.
