Pulley Office Chair Modification

Admin October 09, 2026

The modification of pulley office chairs can be carried out in four directions: basic modification, adding brake devices, personalized additions, and creative modifications. The specific plans are as follows:

1. Basic Modification: Replace with Silent Casters
The casters of ordinary office chairs can be upgraded to silent PU models. It is recommended to choose models with a diameter of 5.5 cm and axle diameters that fit standard chair foot holes of 11 mm or 13 mm. If the original chair foot axle diameter does not match, use a bushing adapter to adjust the size. When replacing, for snap-on casters, use pliers to grip the edge of the axle and wiggle it back and forth to pull it out; for old-fashioned screw-fixed models, use a Phillips screwdriver to unscrew the screws and remove them. When installing new casters, align the bushing with the chair foot hole and press vertically until you hear a 'click' sound, indicating that the snap is locked. This modification can significantly reduce moving noise and enhance comfort.

2. Adding Brake Devices: Achieve Temporary Fixation
If you need to fix the position of the chair, you can choose casters with a self-locking button. Press the red button on the side to lock it, and release it to restore movement. If the original chair does not have this function, you can purchase a foot-operated brake assembly separately: drill holes in the crossbeam under the chair seat to fix the lever base, connect the brake block to the end of the lever, and align it with the caster's rotating axle. When stepping on the lever, the brake block will press against the caster to stop it from rotating. This solution is suitable for scenarios that require precise positioning, such as drawing or manual operations.

3. Personalized Additions: Optimize User Experience
According to daily needs, functional accessories can be installed by drilling holes in the crossbeams on both sides of the chair seat:

  • Foldable Cup Holder: Convenient for placing beverages and preventing spills;
  • Phone Holder: Frees up hands for easy viewing of information;
  • Small Storage Pouch: Stores pens, notes, and other small items.
    Accessories should be made of lightweight materials to avoid affecting the chair's balance. When installing, pay attention to drilling holes in positions that avoid critical structural parts.

4. Creative Modifications: Expand Functional Boundaries
Breaking away from traditional uses, you can try the following innovative plans:

  • Mobile Small Table: Remove the casters from the swivel chair and connect wooden boards to form a movable tabletop, suitable for temporary office work or children's activities;
  • Massage Chair Modification: Disassemble the casters from roller skates, assemble a steel frame to fix an ordinary chair, and simulate massage movements through caster rolling (requires professional tools for assistance).
    Such modifications require evaluating structural safety to ensure that the load-bearing capacity and stability meet usage requirements. It is recommended that non-professionals proceed with caution.

Precautions: Before modification, confirm the material and structural strength of the chair to avoid damage caused by drilling or disassembly; when involving electrical or mechanical structural adjustments, it is advisable to consult professionals. After modification, test the functional stability to ensure safety without hidden dangers.
