Problems with Office Chairs

Admin October 11, 2026

The current problems with office chairs in China mainly include the following aspects:

I. Marketing Strategy and Market Competition Issues The domestic office chair industry generally lacks a scientific marketing strategy, lacking long-term planning in market promotion, channel management, logistics distribution, after-sales service, and manufacturer relationship maintenance, resulting in inefficient market expansion. At the same time, market competition is in a disordered state, with a large number of brands but distinct regional characteristics. No national or international leading brands have emerged, and the industry concentration is low.

II. Shortcomings in Production Mode and Design Capabilities Most enterprises still focus on low-end production, serving as contract manufacturers for foreign companies, and lacking independent core technologies. Design capabilities are generally weak, with severe product homogenization and widespread plagiarism, making it difficult to meet consumers' demands for personalized and functional office chairs.

III. Prominent Product Quality and Safety Hazards

  1. High Recall and Inspection Failure Rates: Multiple recall incidents have occurred domestically and internationally due to design defects or manufacturing flaws, with many batches of products failing regulatory inspections. For example, an inspection by the State Administration for Market Regulation revealed that 21 batches of products were unqualified, with a batch failure rate of 23.3%. Among them, office swivel chairs had more issues, involving risks such as base fractures, caster detachments, and formaldehyde exceedances.
  2. Explosion Risks of Pneumatic Swivel Chairs: Some products may explode under high temperatures or frequent friction due to insufficient nitrogen purity, poor cylinder materials, or poor sealing. Unscrupulous manufacturers further exacerbate safety hazards by filling them with high-pressure air to reduce costs.

IV. Counterfeit Products and Environmental Issues Counterfeit products disrupt the market order and harm consumer rights through low prices. At the same time, the development of environmentally friendly chairs is insufficient, with most manufacturers lacking mature technology to meet green consumption demands.

V. Functional Defects in Pneumatic Rods Pneumatic rod scraping against the ground is a common issue, primarily caused by component aging (such as rubber ring wear), base structural deviations (such as tilted five-claw bases), or mismatched ground environments (such as friction between hard casters and rough surfaces). These problems may lead to pneumatic rod sinking, metal outer walls contacting the ground, and even loose fixing screws, affecting usage safety.
