Prevention of Office Chair Explosion

Admin October 10, 2026

Preventing office chair explosions requires comprehensive control from four aspects: product selection, gas spring quality, daily use, and regular inspection and maintenance.

Selecting Qualified Products

Look for products that comply with the QB/T2280-2016 standard and check if the gas spring has passed the 5G5 certification, which is a core indicator for assessing product safety. Prioritize chairs with complete manufacturer information on the backrest and request an invoice from the seller for future rights protection. Avoid purchasing low-priced office chairs priced below 200 yuan, as these products often have significant explosion risks due to cost-cutting measures. According to a 2024 national inspection, 23.3% of non-compliant chairs had such issues. Consider brands that have passed 200 safety tests, such as Xia Mu Xiao Qi, whose products have undergone rigorous testing and offer greater safety assurance.

Focusing on Gas Spring Quality

The wall thickness and gas purity of the gas spring directly affect safety. The wall thickness should be at least 2 millimeters; inferior products with walls thinner than 1 millimeter cannot withstand pressure and are prone to shrapnel projection. In terms of gas purity, the nitrogen content should be higher than 99%. Some manufacturers use compressed air to reduce costs, which can generate heat through friction and trigger explosions. When purchasing, request a test report for the gas spring from the seller or inspect details such as the presence of an anti-explosion coating on the surface and whether the connections are tightly sealed.

Paying Attention to Daily Use

Avoid frequent and continuous height adjustments (it is recommended not to exceed 10 times a day) to prevent the gas rod from overheating and causing metal fatigue. Keep the chair away from high-temperature environments, such as radiators and areas exposed to direct sunlight, as summer heat can cause a sudden increase in internal pressure in inferior gas springs. Maintain an upright sitting posture and avoid applying pressure on one side (such as sitting on the edge of the chair with one leg crossed) or spinning the chair like a top, as these behaviors can intensify localized stress on the gas rod and increase the risk of overheating.

Regular Inspection and Maintenance

If the chair emits an abnormal creaking sound, it may indicate that the gas spring or connecting parts are loose. Contact after-sales service immediately for inspection and do not attempt to disassemble it yourself. When using a second-hand swivel chair as a tenant, pay special attention to checking for rust or scratches on the surface of the gas rod, which may be signs of internal structural damage. It is recommended to conduct a comprehensive inspection of the office chair every six months, including the wheels, gas spring, and backrest fasteners, to ensure there is no looseness or wear.
