Poor-Quality Office Chair Collapsed
Admin October 10, 2026
For the collapse of poor-quality office chairs, repair or replacement should be chosen according to the degree of collapse. For mild to moderate cases, you can try to repair them yourself, while for severe cases, replacement is recommended.

Repair Methods for Mild to Moderate Collapse
- Pat and knead the collapsed area: For local subsidence (less than 1 centimeter) caused by poor-quality filling materials, you can restore the fluffiness of the internal filling by patting and kneading. For example, when low-density sponges or poor-quality mesh fabrics are deformed due to long-term pressure, physical stimulation can temporarily restore their shape.
- Adjust the support of the mesh fabric cushion: If the collapse is caused by loose mesh fabric, find the fixed straps under the cushion and restore the tension of the mesh fabric by tightening the screws or re-cross-tightening the straps. This method is suitable for cases where the support structure is not damaged but the elasticity has decreased.
- Add bottom supports: Placing a flat wooden board or cardboard under the cushion can enhance the overall support and relieve the feeling of collapse. This method is suitable for chairs with slightly deformed but not completely ineffective bottom frames.
- Dry the damp materials: If the collapse is caused by material deformation due to dampness (such as the shrinkage of a sponge after absorbing water and expanding), move the chair to a well-ventilated place for drying (avoid direct sunlight) to help the material restore its original shape.
- Replace the sponge filling: For sponge cushions, users with strong hands-on skills can open the outer fabric, replace the original collapsed part with professional filling materials or new sponges, and then re-seal it. This method requires ensuring that the density and elasticity of the filling meet the standards.
Replacement Recommendations for Severe Collapse
If the collapse meets any of the following conditions, it is recommended to replace the cushion or the entire chair:
- When sitting down, there is an obvious feeling of the legs being "scooped up", and the support is completely lost;
- The materials show irreversible sagging and deformation (such as sponge breakage or mesh fabric tearing);
- The cost of repairing or replacing original factory parts exceeds 50% of the original price of the chair;
- The chair has been in use for more than 3 years, and other components (such as gas rods and wheels) may gradually age;
- The cushion frame or bottom support structure is damaged (such as metal bracket breakage or plastic part cracking).
Special reminder: Some poor-quality products (such as the "Liuliu Stool" priced at 89.9 yuan) may be filled with moldy wooden boards, used sponges, or even construction waste. Such chairs are not only prone to collapse but may also pose safety hazards and should be avoided when purchasing.
