Pneumatic Rod Office Chair

Admin October 10, 2026

The pneumatic rod office chair, also known as a pneumatic height-adjustable swivel chair, is an office swivel chair that uses a pneumatic rod as its core component to achieve seat height adjustment. The following provides an introduction from four aspects: structure, working principle, installation steps, and safety precautions.

I. Structural Composition
The pneumatic height-adjustable swivel chair consists of components such as a seat (cushion), backrest, pneumatic rod (pneumatic cylinder), base (including a reclining mechanism), five-star foot, and casters. Among them, the pneumatic rod is the core lifting device, usually installed in the central hole of the chair foot, connecting the seat to the five-star foot. The five-star foot is mostly made of metal, distributed in a star shape, with casters installed at the bottom for mobility. The base is responsible for connecting the seat to the pneumatic rod and integrating the reclining mechanism to support backrest angle adjustment.

II. Working Principle
The pneumatic rod (gas spring) achieves height adjustment through high-pressure nitrogen gas filled inside. Its internal structure includes an outer cylinder, inner cylinder, piston, and piston rod, with the control device hermetically installed at the upper end of the inner cylinder. When the user adjusts the valve through the control lever, it controls the connection and isolation between the two gas chambers:

  • Rising: When the valve is opened, high-pressure nitrogen gas flows from the high-pressure gas chamber into the low-pressure gas chamber. The pressure difference pushes the piston rod to extend, raising the seat.
  • Descending: When the user sits on the chair, their weight presses on the piston rod. When the valve is opened, the gas flows back from the low-pressure gas chamber to the high-pressure gas chamber, lowering the seat.
This process does not require a power source and is driven solely by pressure difference, achieving smooth and stepless height adjustment.

III. Installation Steps

  1. Install the casters: Press the casters into the ends of the five legs of the five-star foot, ensuring the clips are securely fastened.
  2. Install the pneumatic rod: Place the pneumatic rod vertically into the central hole of the five-star foot, ensuring the bottom is in tight contact with the chair foot.
  3. Assemble the seat and base: Fix the seat onto the base, and connect the base to the top of the pneumatic rod using connectors.
  4. Install the backrest: Fix the backrest to the rear of the base using screws or clips to complete the overall assembly.

IV. Safety Precautions

  1. Choose qualified products: When purchasing, ensure the product has a qualified label and avoid using inferior pneumatic rods (such as those without explosion-proof design or with insufficient material strength).
  2. Avoid improper operation: Do not repeatedly rotate the lifting mechanism or press the control lever with excessive force to prevent internal seal failure of the pneumatic rod.
  3. Regular inspection and maintenance: Check the integrity of the pneumatic rod, five-star foot, and casters monthly. Replace them immediately if cracks or looseness are found.
  4. Weight limit: People weighing over 100 kilograms should use it with caution, as excessive weight may increase the load on the pneumatic rod and the risk of bursting.
