Disassembly of Pneumatic Office Chair

Admin October 12, 2026

The disassembly of a pneumatic office chair can be achieved through the following three methods, and the specific operation should be selected according to the actual situation:

Method 1: Lubricant-Assisted Disassembly This method is suitable for situations where the components are tightly connected and wear reduction is required. First, evenly apply lubricant to the connection between the chair seat base and the pneumatic rod, and let it sit for at least half an hour to penetrate and lubricate. When disassembling the chair seat, it is recommended that two people cooperate: one person uses a rubber mallet to evenly tap the four corners of the base, while the other person assists in holding the pneumatic rod steady to prevent deviation during tapping. Once the chair seat is loose, apply lubricant again to the connection between the five-claw footrest and the pneumatic rod. Use a rubber mallet to tap the outer perimeter of the bottom of the pneumatic rod to separate it from the five-claw footrest. When tapping, operate through a cloth to prevent the surface of the footrest from peeling or cracking. Finally, reinstall the chair wheels onto the footrest, align the new pneumatic rod with the mounting holes of the five-claw footrest and the chair seat, insert it vertically, and then perform a lift test to ensure it is securely installed.

Method 2: Mechanical Shaking Disassembly This method is suitable for situations where the connection between the pneumatic rod and the chair seat is relatively loose. During operation, step on one side of the footrest with your foot to secure the base, adjust the seat depth to the innermost position, and raise the seat cushion to the highest point. Grasp both sides of the seat cushion directly above the pneumatic rod with both hands, and shake it left and right to loosen the connection. Then, pull the seat cushion straight up. Flip the footrest upside down and pull out the casters vertically at a 90-degree angle (if the casters are too tight, a screwdriver can be used to assist in prying them out). Finally, place the footrest on a hard surface (such as a concrete floor), and use a hammer to strike the top of the pneumatic rod forcefully to dislodge it from the footrest. This method requires careful control of the force to avoid damaging the structure of the footrest.

Method 3: Direct Tapping Disassembly If the pneumatic rod is functioning normally and there is no rust at the connection, a simplified tapping method can be used. Use a rubber mallet or wooden mallet to directly tap the connection between the pneumatic rod and the footrest, or tap the bottom of the footrest to force the pneumatic rod to loosen. This method is simple to operate, but it is necessary to ensure that the pneumatic rod has not become stuck due to long-term use, otherwise, components may be damaged. It is recommended to wear gloves when tapping to prevent hand injuries.

Precautions:

  1. Clear the surrounding space before disassembly to avoid injury from flying components;
  2. Choose a specialized lubricant (such as WD-40) to avoid corroding plastic or metal;
  3. If there is high-pressure gas inside the pneumatic rod, release the pressure before disassembly (this can be achieved by repeatedly pressing the seat cushion to the lowest point);
  4. When installing a new pneumatic rod, ensure that its specifications match the original component to avoid abnormal lifting function.
