Plastic Office Chair Breakage

Admin October 09, 2026

Plastic office chair breakage can be repaired using the following methods depending on the specific breakage situation:

  1. Steel bar insertion and glue fixation method: Suitable for scenarios where there is a large gap at the breakage site and the structure is relatively intact. Select a steel bar that matches the aperture of the breakage site, insert it into the broken part, and then evenly apply strong glue (such as epoxy resin glue) on the contact surface. Ensure that the steel bar is fully embedded and the glue covers all contact surfaces. Let it stand for 24 hours until the glue is completely cured.
  2. Hot-melt drilling and weaving method: For cases where the breakage surface is irregular or has multiple cracks. Use a soldering iron to evenly melt small holes every 10mm on both sides of the breakage surface. Select a 2.5-square-millimeter multi-strand soft copper wire for cross-weaving. When weaving, keep the tension of the copper wire uniform and use the ductility and friction of the metal to form a self-balancing structure. This method is suitable for repairing load-bearing parts and can effectively disperse stress.
  3. Hot-melt glue repair method: Suitable for local repairs where small pieces of plastic have fallen off. First, clean the breakage surface with boiling water to remove oil stains. After the surface is dry, heat the hot-melt glue stick to a molten state and evenly apply it to the fallen-off part, then quickly align it. When operating, keep your hands steady to ensure alignment accuracy. After cooling and solidification, check the surface flatness. This method has a short repair cycle but poor temperature resistance.
  4. Strong glue repair method: For cases where there is a large-area breakage and the breakage surface is flat. Thoroughly clean the breakage surface with alcohol wipes. After it is completely dry, apply AB-type strong glue. When bonding, apply uniform pressure (you can use a pressure bar or a heavy object for assistance) and keep it for more than 2 hours until the glue is initially cured. This method is easy to operate, but the environmental humidity must be strictly controlled as high humidity can affect the performance of the glue.
  5. Hot-melt method with the same plastic material: If the breakage is of the same plastic material (such as common polypropylene and polyethylene materials), select a plastic welding rod of the corresponding material. Use a hot-melt gun to heat the welding rod and the edge of the breakage site, and gently press and fit them while heating. After cooling, sand the surface flat to restore the original shape and strength as much as possible.

Repair precautions: Thoroughly clean the breakage before implementing any of the above methods to avoid the influence of oil stains on the bonding effect. For hot-melt operations, control the temperature (it is recommended to be between 180 - 220โ„ƒ) to prevent secondary damage to the plastic. Avoid placing weight on the repaired part within 24 hours after repair until the material is completely cured. If the breakage involves core structures such as chair leg joints, it is recommended to contact professional repair services or directly replace the chair. For polypropylene (PP) material chairs, use special plastic glue as ordinary glue is prone to falling off.
