Drawing Chairs and Office Chairs

Admin October 17, 2026

To draw simple sketches of chairs or office chairs, you can refer to the following methods:

I. Steps for Drawing Basic Chair Sketches

  1. Drawing Chair Legs: Start by writing two Chinese characters resembling the shape of a person ("ไบบ") as the two front legs of the chair. Ensure that the inclination angles and spacing of the two strokes are consistent to reflect stability.
  2. Adding the Seat: Draw a parallelogram on top of the "ไบบ" characters as the seat. Align the bottom edge of the parallelogram with the top of the "ไบบ" characters to ensure a reasonable structure.
  3. Completing the Back Legs: Add two vertical or slightly inclined straight lines at the back of the seat as the back legs, forming a supporting structure with the front legs.
  4. Adding Details: Draw a horizontal line below the seat to connect the front and back legs, serving as the supporting crossbeam of the chair. If you need to depict a backrest, extend a trapezoid or rectangle at the back of the seat.

II. Detailed Depiction Methods for Ergonomic Office Chairs

If you need to draw more complex ergonomic office chairs, incorporate details based on their functional characteristics:

  1. Lumbar and Back Support Structure: Design an arc-shaped support on the backrest that conforms to the human body's curves. Use smooth curves to represent it and highlight an arc-shaped protrusion at the lumbar position to reflect support for the lumbar spine.
  2. Seat Cushion Support Design: The seat cushion can be drawn as a slightly thick rectangle, with wavy lines added to the edges to imply elastic materials. If you need to depict breathability, draw small dots or grid patterns on the surface of the seat cushion.
  3. Adjustable Armrests: The armrests can be drawn as long strips parallel to the seat, with small circles or short horizontal lines added at the ends to represent adjustable height buttons or knobs. If the armrests can rotate, use arcs to represent their range of motion.
  4. Five-Star Base and Wheels: Draw a five-pointed star shape at the bottom of the chair as the base, and add a small circle at the end of each point to represent universal wheels, reflecting the mobility of the office chair.

III. Drawing Precautions

  • Proportional Coordination: The width of the seat should be greater than that of the backrest, and the height of the legs should ensure a reasonable inclination angle of the seat (usually 5ยฐ-10ยฐ higher at the front and lower at the back).
  • Simple Lines: Simple sketches focus on outlines, avoiding excessive internal details and emphasizing structural features.
  • Functional Implications: Use line thickness or symbols (such as small circles or short horizontal lines) to imply adjustable components, enhancing the information content of the drawing.
