Old Office Chair Renovation

Admin October 11, 2026

Old office chair renovation can be achieved through various methods, depending on the extent of damage to the chair and the renovation requirements.

If the chair is old and the seat surface is severely damaged: Remove the original seat surface and make a new one. First, measure the dimensions of the chair's seat surface and cut appropriate boards as the base for the new seat, such as plywood or medium-density fiberboard. Then, select comfortable and durable filling materials, like sponge, cut them according to the shape of the seat surface, and paste them onto the base. Finally, choose your favorite fabric, wrap it around the filled seat surface, and secure the edges of the fabric with a staple gun or glue, ensuring the fabric is flat and wrinkle-free. A brand-new seat surface is thus completed.

If the chair has local damage, such as a broken corner: Use wood putty to fill it. First, clean the broken corner area and evenly apply the wood putty to the broken corner, filling it up to be flush with the surface of the chair. After the putty dries, sand it to make the filled area smooth and even. Then, use acrylic paint for touch-up. Mix a paint color similar to the original color of the chair and carefully apply it to the filled area to match the surrounding color. Finally, apply a layer of wood wax oil, which not only protects the surface of the chair but also enhances its luster, restoring the chair's appearance. For old seat cushions, first remove and keep the cushion core. Purchase new fabric and sew it into a circle slightly larger than the cushion core. Add an appropriate amount of PP cotton between the fabric and the cushion core to increase the softness and comfort of the cushion. Then, tighten and secure the fabric and put it back on the chair.

If the chair is hard, bulky, and unattractive: You can buy a cushion and place it on the chair to increase comfort. Then, choose nice fabric, cut it to the appropriate size according to the dimensions of the cushion, sew the soft side of the Velcro on one side of the fabric, and sew the rough side of the Velcro at the corresponding position on the cushion. Stick the fabric onto the cushion. This not only enhances the appearance of the chair but also makes it easy to remove and clean.
